Introducing Discussionist: A new forum by the creators of DU

Wed Apr 4, 2012, 03:30 PM

What is your current wallpaper?

I just changed mine and it occurred to me we haven't had a thread on this for awhile. Here is my new wallpaper--wisteria covered brick silos. This same subject was my Spring entry last year, but I happened to get some good clouds in it this year. I would love to see people's wallpaper photographs in this thread.

Naturally I blogged a bit about the silos and the wallpaper:

1. Oh gosh Celebration . . .

yours is so lush, colorful and beautiful.

Here's what I have at work (posted here a few weeks ago). I JUST got a new computer and haven't had time to add a personal wallpaper yet. *sigh*

10. loved this when you first posted it!

Maybe this thread will give you some encouragement to add something to your new home computer. That is one of the first things I do with a new computer--add my wallpaper. More fun than screwing around with anti-virus software!

I love wisteria.

I've had the same wallpaper for ages-a shot of the Pantheon in Rome.

I think in a matching test, I could have picked out this beautiful photo as being YOUR wallpaper. Definitely classic, and I love that ceiling.

12. definitely, definitely

In your case, I can see why you wouldn't have a vacation photo as your wallpaper. I used to always use vacation photos as wallpaper, but the last few times, I have wanted home ones.

This is a gorgeous photo, and if I had to guess what state it was from, without knowing, I feel sure I would say Vermont.

13. I love that plant in the photo

Totally makes the photo. Is that a holly? I may be off, but when I see sharp looking leaves, I think holly, although I am sure there are other plants with sharp leaves. Anyway, I think it is pretty cool that my eye is drawn up to that plant. It gives the cityscape a lot of movement.

14. LOL

Doesn't your slideshow know the rule of thirds?

I was going to say you are too high tech for me, but then I remember that I had an old screensaver that ran a slideshow, and that was about three computers ago. I have never heard of a slideshow for wallpaper. That *could* drive me nuts. But I'm sure there are some wonderful photos in your slideshow, even as it teaches you new cropping ideas.

49. It contains some happy accidents.

The light effects from the headlight beams that play along the length of the road and buildings are actually made by the same vehicle that left the tail light trails (which makes sense, if you think about it) but the car headlights peaking just over the rise at the end of the road give the impression that they are the source of the headlight path (on the road surface, at least, to my eye). This was a 6sec. exposure, iirc.

I didn't plan it that way; I was going for the tail light trails, and never even considered catching the headlights' path. Catching the car coming over the rise was a complete accident, as it occurred just as the shutter closed.

I adjusted for clarity in Lightroom to sharpen the effect of the lamps in/on the building on the left.

I have several other shots from this series that I also like; unfortunately, they are on an external hard drive which I haven't been able to get my new laptop to recognize. I need to take it to a computer place and have the contents (including six years worth of photos) transferred to a new external drive.

and can see why it would be your desktop. Beautiful shot. Right now I have a single dahlia for a desktop for spring/summer at least until my flowers are blooming and I find the next photo.

20. I took the photo

of the flower itself and it is original but it is on a new background that I created for the desktop. My monitor is too long for the photo and I don't like stretched or a band on the side. The background is just the same flower made bigger and faded (adjusted layer opacity) on the dark green background. Made my browser match and only allow 3 icons tops on the desktop. The computer seems to be the only place I am clean, streamlined & organized. Unfortunately my dahlias seem to always die in August.

38. There is a trick to it....

I add a shortcut folder to my user folder on the desktop for the least used programs and have the most used on the task bar. I tried only having 2 for a while but it was a PIA to remember to empty the recycle bin with it hidden. If I ever get the courage to load Windows 7 on here (the disk has been sitting here waiting) then I'll be able to have a series of desktop photos like I did the Hubby's.

It reminds me of the flower of life, and sacred geometry all at the same time. This is just perfect. Love the subtle variegation of color between orange and yellow. These are my favorite colors.

I did not take this on my recent trip, it's from a couple of years ago, I used it as wallpaper to remind me of where I've just been.
Actually, most of the time my wallpaper is one of "you'all's" photos. I change it frequently, whenever something really strikes my fancy.

Great post, Celebration, and I remember your wisteria covered wall very well.
