A few images from a walk in Raven Run Nature Sanctuary

Turkey Tail Mushroom

Small Mouth Salamander

Path down to Chandler Creek. It was a wonderful world of mud. It was a 200ft drop to the creek, meaning a 200ft climb back to my car. My next visit will include the palisades of the Kentucky River. Not too sure I am up to four miles over tough terrain.

As of last night, I wasn't too happy with the images of the creek, but maybe a second look is needed.

1. These are great alfredo. I'm not familiar with the Turkey Tail Mushroom, but it's aptly named....

Your third photo, are those "natural" or man-made (ahem) speed bumps.

I'm not trying to be snarky, but when my daughter was in grad school and she took me out for hikes and asked me if I noticed "bumps" in trails (mountain trails). I just assumed they were natural, but in that particular area they were man-made, to combat the run-off (or something like that). I'm not a scientist - LOL!

Anyway, these are great photos. On a hike several years ago I came across a red salamander, and I too stopped to take a photo.

5. Thanks. Those are natural steps. On other parts of the trail there are man made steps.

That particular salamander appears in late winter.

The one you saw probably had an orangish color and spots. Salamanders are a very successful animal.
