Some Swiss Scenery

Last edited Thu Oct 10, 2013, 01:02 PM - Edit history (1)

My wife and I spent a lovely week in the Alps, in a cozy little cabin in the middle of a Unesco World Heritage site.

Just by chance, while walking up a mountain road outside of Kandersteg, we happened to encounter the yearly "Alpabfahrt", or leading of the livestock down to a lower valley to spend the winter. The farmers, their kids and even the cows dress up in traditional costumes for the procession.

Mostly things went smoothly, except for this:

This is where the procession started out in a higher valley.

The whole area is full of spectacular scenery.

Well, I don't want to overdo it with the vacation pics.

What a beautiful area.

The head butting pic isn't really special enough to enter in that storytelling contest, I feel.

What about something like this?

Thanks!

I want to go up there more often. It's only an hour and a half's drive from where we live. A good friend of my wife's owns that little cottage, which means that we can use it practically any time. I bet in the spring it's really beautiful.

I couldn't help myself-I've been trying to make some photoshop pics with cave monsters.

Haven't quite gotten it right yet....

Thank you for the cave monster, it made me laugh out loud, remembering that we first we connected after I spied a tiny UFO in a landscape photo of yours and learned you were the photoshop KING.
Glad you are had such a great experience.
I'd be using that cabin in the spring if I were you!

My wife and I spent our 25th anniversary in Lauterbrunnen and then drove over to Kandersteg and took the autotrain through to the Valais and then back around to Montruex.

We rented a cute little BMW for the trip.

The Alps are incredible.

No photo can really do them them justice, or at least, mine can't. Your anniversary trip must have been very cool. It's a weird feeling, isn't it, driving one's car onto that train and then being transported through the tunnel.

There was a minivan behind us, no big deal right. I learned when we got into the tunnel there was a young couple in the van. I would not have notice had the young lady not bumped the turn signal as she was riding her partner. Ii am sitting there when I see flasflashing behind me, so I look in the mirror and I see her but in the windshield. They were definitely exhibitionist because they had the cabin light on.

Whoopie in the Alps!

That makes me think of a bumper sticker I saw somewhere: "If this van is rockin', don't come a knockin'!"

there skiing in the late 60ies following a 2 day snowstorm. Even the skiing was shut down for a day or so. Got to do some shopping...mostly window shopping. The peaks were so covered with snow we couldn't see all those rugged/ragged peaks...now I have a new found appreciation of how awesome they are. Thanks again!

PS If you ever go there be sure to check out Austria. I think it's even more beautiful than Switzerland. All those lovely "Swiss" Chalets are mostly in Austria as Switzerland is more commercial....but still beautiful.

I'm not as familiar with it as I am with Switzerland, but I know some gorgeous places there too.

Glad you enjoyed the photos.
