(22,380 posts)The choice of subject is the most comprehensive ever.
I can't wait for what shows up, and for what will happen.
I laud you for a wonderful job of keeping our noses to the grindstone as this contest develops.
I feel like my arse is dragging and that I'm sure to screw something up, so your words help a lot!
Thanks!

(15,812 posts)I am loving trying to match photos with posters but so far I am only sure of my own, and maybe one other. I guess I am giving everyone a hint that mine has been submitted. I love the blinded entries, not for every contest, but we haven't had one in awhile and I am reminded of why I like it.
I am also loving the submissions.

(22,756 posts)I don't normally comment on particular photos at the beginning of the contest but "Summer Bliss" is priceless for Americana and excellent in terms of photographic quality... kudos to the photographer

(1,771 posts)But Parkette is the clear standout photo. It embodies America in a timeless way with some nice subtle symbolism. Well done mystery person.
I hope I didn't 'curse' Parkette by saying this. I don't vote in these contests so this is my way of expressing my opinion.

(22,756 posts)awhile back in the Lounge there was a thread about drive-in theaters... it was fun to remember...
back in Michigan I lived next to a drive-in and they finally shut it down because of the 'smut'... of course, I could see the screen from points in my back yard

(1,771 posts)There was a recent article on the (very) few drive-ins left in the area. We have plans to go to one that is a motel where you watch the movie outside your room. Sounds cool.
With everything converting over to digital many movie theaters in small towns are struggling to stay open. The walk-in kind.
Yea, I think the drive-in gave me my first detailed anatomy lesson. Large and in living color.

(22,380 posts)as I was showing the photos to grandson his response was:
Are you seeing the stylized American Flag?
NO _ where?
Well, the rows of red, the block of blue on the left, and the field of white. Just squint!
He amazes me.
I did not enter the one he begged me to enter.
I'll probably regret it.

(90,762 posts)That is cool!
You'll have to share the other photo with us.

(22,380 posts)I showed it to him only because I liked it, not as a potential entry. He nevertheless fell in love with the passage of time and building etc. Wanted to call it: Our Fathers before us.
