(5,113 posts)i like alfredo's use of B&w for hdr. when people think of HDR they tend to automatically think of bright color but b&w is a very effectie tool for HDR

(1,977 posts)but the ones so far are really good. HDR is often over done but I like these so far.

(20,886 posts)So if anyone objects that it's not new, I will remove it.
It's three different exposure layers and another layer with posterization to enhance the rust.

I find these two fascinating while I'm learning to wrap my brain around this HDR concept.
But your entry is a work of art. Perfection pales beside it, that's how much I like it.
Very Vogue. Creative. Flawless.

(809 posts)I can set HDR in the camera from not on, through +5 HDR. For parameters of the June contest, does this count?

(11,482 posts)I couldn't decide between that photo or another one I'd been working on, asked my son his opinion and he said it was a no-brainer because the other one was way too cluttered.

(14,910 posts)I hesitated to compete in this month's competition based on my experience with HDR photography.
Well I played with a group of photographs yesterday and came up with something I was comfortable submitting.
Some fantastic submissions so far!
Look forward to being a part of this crop of submissions...
Good luck, everyone!

(4,584 posts)I am in awe of what has been posted so far. This is a great theme because it got me to try HDR. I've been out a few times shooting and quickly learned you really do need a tripod, especially when your camera doesn't do auto-bracketing. So I buy a nice tripod that I can take hiking. Yesterday I am out, got lots of shots, and on my return was about 10 feet from the road and safety. There was one small ledge above a pool of water to negotiate. Can you guess what happened?
My foot went in the wrong place, I lost my balance and tumbled into the pool of water, submerging me, my phone and of course the camera. The camera and phone are in bags of rice but I am not hopeful and already feel lonely without a DSLR. Happily my SD card was fine. At least I was due for a new phone (contract satisfied) and I guess I am now due for a new camera.
I am looking at an upgrade from my 3100. A happy belated father's day present to me.

(5,113 posts)either a food dehydrator (if you have one) or an oven turned as low as you can (150-175)
ive done that with a phone that went for a swim in a hot tub and also a friends phones who also went for a swim.
ive never had any luck with rice

(11,482 posts)If any of the optics got wet (sensor, mirror, etc.) there may well be residue on them that will need to be cleaned. But as far as just getting it functioning again, I agree with a heat soak for as long as it takes, provided you can keep the temperature down around 150 or below.

(1,573 posts)I was going to submit an old HDR from my film days for the contest. but I submitted a digital but expanded the tonal range using the technique in the tutorial linked below.
Achieving an increased dynamic range has been long sought by photographers. Film, and now digital, has never been able to reproduce the range of tonality that the human eye is capable of seeing. When we look at a scene we see the details in the shadows and the detail in the highlights. Photography is incapable of capturing that same range in one shot. Shoot for detail in the highlights without burning them out and there are no details in the shadows ... it's just pure black. Shoot for the shadows and the highlights are burned out ... glaring white.
The trick with film (negative not slide film) was to overexpose to capture the shadow detail then underdevelop so as not to blow out the highlights.
I have been doing HDR for a long time. This is the film shot I was going to submit. It was taken just as the sun had dipped below the horizon. There was not much latitude so I expose for the buildings then developed so as not to blow out the white fence.
Also if you do not want to use automated HDR software, here is a link to DYI (you do need photoshop or an equivalent program) HDR.
