A 360-degree panoramic video of one of my favorite nearby spots (it haz birdz, Solly)

This overlook is where I often go to take my sunset shots, so it may look kind of familiar to some of you. It's about a mile and a half from our house, at the end of the north-south runway of the Anchorage airport, which explains the plane sounds and the security fence. The sign says stay back, dangerous cliffs, so I go out to the edge.

1. looks expansive and just a bit chilly

love watching the video... what camera? I noted in your other post that you have a 7D... I have not tried videos with mine and wonder if that is what you are using

5. Yes, it's the 7D

It's really easy to use. I'm not sure about editing. I downloaded the Canon solutions disc, but when I click on the movie maker function, all I see is the Readme file and the uninstall. I see Corel has a program that combines their PaintShop ProX 5 with their movie editing program for around $100, so I might invest in that. The standalone movie editor was about 60 bucks, I think, but I may as well upgrade the PaintShop, too.

Anyway, I mounted the 7D on my new tripod that has the pan feature and just moved it around. It took forever to upload to YouTube, but I guess that's the way that works.

I wouldn't even begin to try this today. The wind is howling and it's raining. Weird weather.

15. PaintShop ProX 5

It comes with Nik Software's ColorEfx 3.0. I have it but I use different video editing software - Pinnacle Studio 12 on the desktop and Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 for the laptop. The Corel video software should be good for what you might want to do with the movies you shoot.

3. A wonderful virtual visit...

Thanks for this wonderful virtual visit to Alaska. It reminds me of those videos on CBS Sunday Morning.

14. Exactly what you said. It not only makes me feel

like I'm visiting a cold and different place. It makes me feel like visiting Blue herself. I do recognize a lot of the landscape from her photographic work, having come suddenly alive with birds and sound.
Beautiful.

4. Beautiful country. I guess you've gone down to the water's edge. I'd have a hard time resisting.

6. Yes, I have, but not from this spot.

It's impossible. There's a parking lot a little further down this road from where you can walk down to the beach, and there are several other places along the 11-mile coastal trail where you can access the water, but quite a bit of the trail is up on the cliff like this, so you wouldn't want to try from there. You'd probably hurt yourself.

8. I hadn't thought of that, but you're probably right.

They're always digging stuff up here...strange dinosaurs and mastodons by the thousands.

9. It's kind of mind bending to think dinosaurs lived there.

11. Now that we know they had protective feathers, they could

Survive in a wide range of environments.

13. I saw a documentary about that fossil bed several years ago.

I see they are still digging on the Colville.
