Time to embarrass Blue_in_AK

Last edited Thu Jan 10, 2013, 05:01 PM - Edit history (1)

My uncle posted this fantastic picture of my mom (Blue_in_AK) and her brothers on Facebook last night, and I love it so much I had to share with all of you (cause I knew she wouldn't!).

I love these old-school pictures -- I can't figure out how they got all the kids to look in the same place (my kids definitely won't do that) and I'm impressed by how well focused it is given that there was no auto-focus back then!

Enjoy!

2. Great image. Portrait photographers have many tricks to distract and amaze children.

Most likely he use a large format camera to get the quality and a wide depth of field to get everything into focus.

Mid-sixties?

Steerpike has posted a number of old photos in the California group.

8. 1959

The back of the picture said it was taken in 1959. Not to expose mom's age ... but she was 13. A much prettier 13 year old than I was!I was still going through my awkward stage.

12. I hear your mom is threatening to

get out her scanner. Thinking I would be cautious if it was likely I would of been one of the main subjects in those photos. It is a great picture. They use toys that are brightly colored and make noise to get everyone to look the same way. Works on kids, cats & dogs. Does not work on ferrets though. Also does not always work when a close family member or friend does it for some reason.

13. Instead of autofocus, they used a string

The string was the length of the focus point. They don't do it much differently in TV and in the movies. Actors have a marked point on the floor where they must stand to be properly in focus. If you ever see an actor looking down at the floor, they are probably trying to find their mark.

14. What a touching memory this is!

I'm a little envious. I wish I had one of me with my 5 brothers. But my sister always butted in.
LOL

Joking aside. I like this photo. It is very sweet.
