Some shots in Phildelphia, Neshoba County, Mississippi

Last edited Tue Jan 8, 2013, 11:09 PM - Edit history (1)

These were taken around the Neshoba County courthouse square in Philadelphia, MS this past week. I was near there in Union, MS, and always wanted to find the spot where Michael Schwerner, James Cheney, and Andrew Goodman were murdered in 1964 and photograph and explore that area a bit. I found a lot more than I expected. As my wife says, we always "Forest Gump" into situations. Here's a few shots. You can see them all at my photobucket page here:

I was raised in a redneck southern town. I'm glad I got out of it. It was a mean town. alfredo Jan 2013 #7

I remember when Reagan kicked off his presidential campaign there. His kicking off a run for president in the town where three human rights activist were murdered sent a clear message to the southern racist that he was on their side.

It was an interesting trip! Many folks there are still closed mouthed about it and want to pretend like it never happened.
I "Forest Gumped" into situations which ended up in my meeting and conversing with immediate family members of two of the principals involved in the killings. Quite by accident. It was an interesting experience, and a little un-nerving at the same time.

I'm trying to post more links to a few more pics on photobucket, but it keeps haning my Internet Explorer when I try moving and editing photos within it. I don't know if it is buggy or if I'm having some other computer issues. It, or something crashed my AMD display driver last night while I was working on these phtos. It might be java or flash related issues. I don't know yet. This computer witn an intel i7. It is an HP HPE and is only two months old. I'm hoping I can get it to work.

I need to install a different browser I guess. I was trying to avoid deflowering my virgin but I guess it's about time.
