I didn't make one photo today with the iPhone

Instead, I busted out my Panasonic P&S and got the following shot:

And I took this yesterday with the Nikon:

3. That kitty shot sucked before I processed and cropped it

But thanks! I had to do a lot of processing to save it. I was actually testing flash diffusion with a white piece of paper in front of the on-camera flash and the photo was underlit.

7. Check out Gary Fong's Puffer Flash

http://www.amazon.com/Gary-Fong-Puffer-Flash-Diffuser/dp/B0011000R6

These things are great. Several other people, including BlueinAK have the other diffusers for external flash. The consensus has been that these products are great..

9. I love my Gary Fong diffuser.

I won't even use the flash without it.

I use that big one on my Speedlite, but the puffer thing looks cool. I might have to add that to the arsenal for when I don't want to mess with the external flash.

6. Both spectacular.

Kitty is gorgeous - but the Mall shot astounds me with it's clarity/sharpness and crop.

10. I really like that B&W one.

It's a nice candid shot that shows action combined with architecture. Had it been in color, it would have appeared as another gaudy strip mall. The relatively wide lens gives great effect.

Cats make such steady and willing subjects, but you exposed it just right to bring out his incredibly attentive eyes.

I'm glad you got the camera out. I have endless debates with my oldest son about his iPhone. He gave back the Olympus I gave him last year because he likes his phone better. I know they capture an amazing number of pixels and have a ton of apps, but I guess I'm old fashioned, and seeing that little pinhole lens and negligible focal length causes me doubt.

11. Thanks.

I actually did a version in color but sorta in HDR (I like the B&W better):

I like what the iPhone can do and I like that it's, for me, constantly available. I never have a reason not to take pictures but I am growing tired of its limitations. However, the one huge advantage to an iPhone is that its limitations make you really have to focus on composition to get a great pic (I'm still working on learning composition).

Anyway, P&S cameras are so small, that there isn't any reason really not to carry one around all the time. Besides, there's no way I could have gotten that first shot with an iPhone or a DSLR.
