Something interesting and emotionally engaging - presented in a way that makes it singular and special.
Naturally it is fabulous if the golden rules are followed, and photographic excellence is present.
If the first parts are not also there, it just won't grab the observer enough to make him/her appreciate it fully.

I personally examine balance, negative space, and basic beauty only after the first criteria have made me sit up.

I hope that makes sense.
Tell your friend he/she has delighted me to the max.
