I've never made a cent off any of my drawings, nor have I tried to enter any shows. Our local "Art in the Park" has become a juried event catering strongly to professional out-of-state artists who caravan cross-country to such shows. And when I investigated a small local gallery, they all but wanted your firstborn child to hang artwork there.

I have printed up some flyers and hung them in kennels and pet supply shops, but that's all. Nothing yet.

I did drawing below on Strathmore Watercolor Cold Press. It's a bit thick but handles colored pencils as well as watercolors. The 'back' side is smoother. Admit I haven't done graphite pencil on it - erasures may be incomplete - but detail is no problem.

I'm well into my second drawing now and using the Strathmore Bristol Vellum. I did see one artist recommend the backside of this paper as well but forgot that until too late. It does seem much better for the fine detail work.

Nice work on the illustration, although it's a bit early yet for me to enjoy anything containing a Patriot image!

I have flyers all over town seeking portrait jobs but haven't had a single response in months. I wonder if folks have simply found that the stills and videos of cell-cams produce too good an image of their pets to pay someone for a pencil rendition.

I did check out Etsy but don't believe I could compete with some of those artists who are practically giving away their work. And the local gallery wants your left leg and first newborn in exchange for hanging your work there.

I had some limited exposure to watercolor in my college years, but never enough to gain any kind of expertise with the medium. Good luck to you.

I'm afraid that the two posts I've made here turned out to be the last pieces I have done, hopefully not for another 20 years.

I have place flyers with this and two other images at various locations including vets, pet groomers, a local garden and pet supply store, PetCo, and a kennel. After several months, not a single inquiry. I'm inclined to believe the market for pet artwork is simply not there like it was before the advent of cell cams and razor sharp photos.

Hi,friend. Many of my friends have seen your drawing. They all said that your drawing is really good and vivid. Especially one of my friends said this,"Dogs seldom show their emotions through eyes but usually by movements and expressions. This is a painting of a dog looking out from the window with expectation, and he was looking forward to meeting with his master. The painter endued man’s soul and mind to the dog, and made it own human’s feelings and expressions. Dogs are loyal and they will always be faithful to the first owner who truly loves them through their whole life, though sometimes the dog might be lost for many years, he will not forget his master’s smell and appearance. I once had a dog, which is particularly obedient and faithful. His performance can make me feel that he is even more important than people. One time my family and I went outside for some time and left the dog at home with some food and water. Two days later we returned home, opening the door and saw him lying in the doorway. He excitedly greet us but somewhat sad .He was alone and anxious in a house without his master for two days, not even ate any food and water which we left for him. We fed it instantly, and then he began to eat. I think this is why people love dogs. Dogs prove their attitudes and love for human by their own actions and facts."
In fact, I don't know more about drawings. When I saw your drawing, I just think it is so wonderful and fantastic. After hearing what my friend said, I think you must love your dog very much. You spent so much on drawing it. You couldn't have drawn it so well without love. Can you share more stories about your dog? And I'm looking forward to seeing your more drawings.

This was 'Jessie', a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. She was adopted from the local shelter when she was about a year old. Jessie was the fourth Chesapeake we had owned; they are a fiercely loyal breed and not for everyone. I remember her best for the Tarzan-like yodel she would give when I came through the door at the end of the day, and again when it was feeding time. What vocal chords! Despite her size, she was always kept indoors at night and could open up the closet door, get inside, and shut the door behind her for a nights sleep in her own cave.

When we had to have her put to sleep a few years ago after she suffered from cancer, we told ourselves no more dogs because of the pain of her loss. Less than six months later, we wound up with three, pictured below.

Unfortunately, for various reasons I have not drawn in quite awhile and don't know whether I will ever again pick it back up.

I appreciate your support!
