i am going to a wedding saturday. what do women wear?

i havent been to a wedding for decades and i was in the party, so a dress was assigned. other than that, i was 5. the reception is at a country club.

can i get away with black slacks, and a blazer outfit.... dark colors. or do i need a dress, lighter colors?

the outfit is classy looking and quality. i am just wondering about dark colors at a wedding, and slacks opposed to a dress.

I think the pants would be fine with a pretty blouse but I might steer clear of dark pants and a dark jacket during the day. At the weddings I've been to lately, it seems like anything goes. And besides, everyone will be focused on the wedding party. Wear something comfortable!

I love blathering about clothes and shoes sometimes.

One of my sons is getting married in June. I have to get a dress & shoes. It's in the afternoon and not a super formal occassion.
The hunt for the dress starts Saturday.

Wear the shoes you have, I don't wear heels anymore because they gave me foot problems, so people can have me in slacks and flat shoes, or uninvite me. I've had a few years of black pants and a dressy top at weddings.

You aren't going to ruin the wedding by wearing dark pants!

but at work, i had as many flats as heels. i never wore them enough to hurt feet. i hear ya on that.

i really dont care much about the others, but i dont want to be out of place for hubby. though he is so clueless, lol, i doubt he would even get it. so not gonna worry. didnt want to go shopping anyway.

thanks.

Black pants are part of any of my "go-to" outfits, I've got them in all sorts of fabrics from velvet to slinky depending on where I'm going and what time of day it is. Your top sounds perfect.

I'm thinking I'm at that stage in life I may never wear a dress again. I just don't wear them enough and now when I put one on I just feel silly.

with accessories or with very nice blouses. Long black skirts and black pants and a black top are a must. You can wear anything with black. Anything. You can throw a scarf around your neck and earrings and nice shoes. I never wear heals anymore but the flat shoes are beautiful right now and you can get a very nice pair for around $20 to $50 in Amazon.com.

Try shopping around in amazon.com so you can see what the style is these days. You'll enjoy it.

but slacks and blazer OK if colorful blouse/scarf, imo.
Keep in mind, unless its a very small wedding, few will probably remember what you wear.
Only wedding party should NOT be in black, imo.

46. Wear a dress
Fri Apr 20, 2012, 02:02 PM
Apr 2012

If you live in Texas, yes there will be women wearing pants suits and there may even be women and men wearing jeans. Yes, you can get away with it, but no, you shouldn't. A business casual dress will probably put you on par with most, but something that's more weekend appropriate would be even better if you have it available. A cocktail dress is out unless most of the men are wearing tuxes and very few weddings is that the case anymore and if it were you would be told. Yes, heels will be better, but dress low quarters will work also, you can get away with wearing boots in Texas. The bride will appreciate it even if nobody else does, and weddings are all about making the bride happy. Call me old fashion, but there are a few occasions when men should wear suits and women should wear dresses. Weddings are one of those. Personally I never wear anything but a suit or a sports jacket and tie to a wedding and I've never felt out of place, but then again I've never been to Hoop's wedding.
