My wife speculates that maybe they use a mismatch between claimed occupation and reported income to potentially flag returns for audits...

For example if you are a server and fail to report tip income, then it will probably set off a red flag to them.

I aspire to be Race Bannon.

I figured that they use the data to determine median wages for various occupations and as a verification versus W2 data. I'm bound and determined to prove that Adventurer is a valid career choice even if I have not figured-out how to monetize that opportunity yet.

I figure they use them to compile erroneous occupational wage profiles for the Occupational Outlook fiction they publish annually. My hope is that if enough of us start putting down "prole", they'll have to include it in their index.

On there I put "A Cleaner at a Fortune 500 Company I won't name".

The job is not physically janitorial though. More digging around would reveal who I do actually work for.
