(((((((((VIBES)))))))))))) To Levon Helm (The Band)
Apparently things are quite dire in Levon's world. Robbie Robertson even gave a nod to Levon during the Rock and Roll hall Of fame Speech. Death's door is the word.

4. You know, there is something almost perverse in how good "The Last Waltz" has held up

Last edited Mon Apr 16, 2012, 03:47 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) Scorsese did such a good job filming it, that it almost seems contemporaneous. And so, in my mind, Levon is forever that young, good looking drummer/vocalist from that last the Band concert. That makes his failing health and aging really hard to take....
Be well, Levon. Not time to leave us. |

I also recall with fondness, his portrayal of Loretta Lynn's father in Coal Miners Daughter.

"Dear Friends,
Levon is in the final stages of his battle with cancer. Please send your prayers and love to him as he makes his way through this part of his journey. Thank you fans and music lovers who have made his life so filled with joy and celebration... he has loved nothing more than to play, to fill the room up with music, lay down the back beat, and make the people dance! He did it every time he took the stage... We appreciate all the love and support and concern. From his daughter Amy, and wife Sandy" We wish Lee & his family the best... |

A lingering end like that has got to be the worst.

9. I'd read a (reasonably) recent article in Rolling Stone...

...I thought he'd conquered cancer. This came as a shock, but that's the nature of the disease. My dad had multiple myeloma (bone marrow cancer). It's not like the other forms of cancer. By the time you get the diagnosis, the doctor is basically handing you a death sentence. My dad was gone less than a month later.
