Post here if you've been to Intercourse!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intercourse,_Pennsylvania

Intercourse, Pennsylvania (population: roughly 1,558) is an unincorporated village in Leacock Township, Lancaster County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, ten miles east of Lancaster on Pennsylvania Route 340. As with the nearby towns of Bird-in-Hand, Blue Ball, and Paradise, Intercourse is a popular site for tourists because of its location in "Amish country" and its sexually suggestive name. The movie Witness was filmed in Intercourse as well as other parts of the surrounding area, and For Richer or Poorer was set there, though not filmed in Intercourse. Because of the town's unusual name, the sign posts for the town are frequently targeted by thieves.

Some interesting things you can visit include:

American Military Edged Weaponry Museum
People's Place Quilt Museum
The People's Place

And here is a coupon you can print out from Intercourse Villiage for $4 off a tour of The Amish Experience
http://www.intercoursevillage.com/coupons.php

Click here if you'd like to see a video of Intercourse - http://www.intercoursevillage.com/video.php

If you're hungry I might recommend the Intercourse Pretzels or the Intercourse Village Restaurant!

For those of you who decide to visit Intercourse I hope you have a joyous day in Intercourse. I might suggest while in Intercourse you visit Paradise or Mount Joy but I would have to recommend avoiding Blue Ball or Bird-in-Hand.

1. No, but I've been to Climax......

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climax,_Michigan

Climax is a village in Kalamazoo County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 791 at the 2000 census. The village is located within Climax Township on the northern boundary with Charleston Township, and is roughly 12 miles (19 km) west of Battle Creek and 16 miles (26 km) east of Kalamazoo. Climax shares a school district with the neighboring town of Scotts.

Almost everything in Climax is located on the main cross streets, Main and Maple. The school, cemetery and Harvester restaurant all lie along South Main St. North Main boasts the relatively new music studio (housed in what used to be an independent hardware store), a convenience store, the village library, park, phone company and post office, the bank, Peace Community Church, a few homes, and the town newspaper: the Climax Crescent. Maple is almost entirely residential, with the exception of the United Methodist Church and

10. Been there a couple of times...

Beautiful part of the country...

One Fall, years ago, my ex and I were traveling through and stopped to watch a group of Amish farmers harvest corn, I think. They were cutting the stalks down by hand and loading them onto horse-drawn wagons. It was about 4 pm and the late afternoon sun was golden...it was just gorgeous.

I figure if I can feel my oats in Oatmeal, Texas, head up to Crotch Missouri, thus avoiding Climax Co., Dry Prong La., and Coon Butt Tn,. We may want to stop over in French Lick Ind. Where is Hooker Pa in relation to Intercourse? Is that the quickest route to Intercourse, through Hooker?

21. I've been to the one in Alabama.

Intercourse, Alabama, is an unincorporated community located at a crossroads in Sumter County, Alabama, USA. It is named for the traffic intersection of the town's crossroads (called "intercourse" at that time) at the site of the general store.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intercourse%2C_Alabama

I've also been to OPP, AL... The City of OPPortunity.

And Enterprise, AL, famous for it's statue of the boll weevil.

The boll weevil (Anthonomus grandis) was indigenous to Mexico, but appeared in Alabama in 1915. By 1918 farmers were losing whole cotton crops to the beetle. H. M. Sessions saw this as an opportunity to convert the area to peanut farming. In 1916 he convinced C. W. Baston, an indebted farmer, to back his venture. The first crop paid off their debts and was bought by farmers seeking to change to peanut farming. Cotton was grown again, but farmers learned to diversify their crops, a practice which brought new money to Coffee County.

Bon Fleming, a local businessman, came up with the idea to build the monument, and helped to finance the total cost. As a tribute to how something disastrous can be a catalyst for change, and a reminder of how the people of Enterprise adjusted in the face of adversity, the monument was dedicated on December 11, 1919 at the intersection of College and Main Street, the heart of the town's business district.

The Monument consists of a statue of a woman holding a pedestal with a boll weevil perched on top.

22. yup, been there-- used to live nearby, in Lebanon Co....

Didn't like it much, frankly. It's beautiful country, but damn, so much of the land is owned by Amish and Mennonite farmers that won't sell outside their communities, so the vast majority of the population lives in semi-urban squalor-- by my open space loving standards, at least-- crammed into row houses alongside busy highways. Noisy, sooty, smelly townships. Not my cup of tea.

I used to teach in the biology dept at Lebanon Valley College. I think we swapped memories about Paul Wolf or something. Yours were better than mine, if I recall.

That's basically my memory of Anneville in the post above. We lived out near Bethel, too. That wasn't as bad.

But an old man told me if you wind up in Blue Ball you know you went the wrong way. He also said that there's a back way down the Hershey Highway, which is really just a dirt road.

Personally I'd just as soon go to Jugtown or Climax.
