I've got a flock of wild turkeys on the hill side behind my condo, all they do is walk across the hill side all day. I've been stopped in traffic because they are walking across a 4 lane road. They drive me bonkers.

10. They walk because flying is labor intensive.

The bigger the bird the more energy it takes to get airborne and stay there. Unlike some large birds like geese, turkeys can't go to glider mode once airborne.
