Were no stranger to rounding up insanely unhealthy menu items at chain restaurants, and Outback Steakhouses legendary Bloomin Onion an entire colossal onion, sliced, battered, and deep-fried currently stands on top of the heap with a ridiculous 1,954 calories. This should be more than anyone needs to down in one sitting (or in one day), but the chain just one-upped itself at its own game, unveiling what we can safely say is the unhealthiest appetizer in chain restaurant history.
Its called the Loaded Bloomin Onion, and its completely ridiculous: It starts with a Bloomin Onion, which is then topped with a serving of French fries. This double-dose of deep-fried insanity is then topped with melted Monterey Jack and Cheddar cheeses and chopped bacon, and its served with sides of mayo-based bloom sauce and spicy ranch dressing. The whole mess clocks in at 2,360 calories, according to the company, more than four Big Macs worth.
As with Outbacks original Bloomin Onion, the Loaded Bloom is a shareable, indulgent appetizer that serves 6 people, the company said in a release. Come with friends, a big Aussie appetite and enjoy while it lasts!
Even if six people were to share this monstrosity, theyd each be consuming nearly 400 calories, and thats just the appetizer! And seriously, how many times will this really be shared by a party of six, as opposed to, say, two or three? Or, more terrifyingly, one?

(12,647 posts)Those things are huge to begin with. I couldn't even get a quarter of it down if I wanted to manage enough dinner that I'd have the next day's lunch in a doggie bag. Theme restaurants like Outback - Claim Jumper and Incredible Cheesecake Factory - are what I call "THH" (Take Half Home) or Two-for-Price-of-One. I never expect to eat more than half of what I order in those places, and what I see as "appetizers" are basically full meals.
I know there are people out there that can eat the whole thing, then a dinner, but no one I know personally. Even the garbage guts I know would call that thing an entrée and not order anything else if they didn't want to share.

(50,554 posts)It may be the unhealthiest food item in history, but I can think of lots of things you can have before dinner that are less healthy than a Loaded Bloomin' Onion.
And do they make a Slightly Loaded One without fries? That would be better, I think.
