Damn it, I really miss late boomers/early Gen X being in charge of the cultural conversation, because they created a space for elegant adult pop like this that doesn't really exist any more outside of NPR.

I, however, always saw this as a personal anthem, because I felt it spoke to my struggling with my own sexuality. I was always on the outside, looking in, wondering all about their relationships and why they eluded me. This is still one of my favorite songs.
