After having a few moments of peace, trouble finds its way to Alexandria yet again. Only this time, the threat might be too big to defeat.NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)There is a scene that comes after the closing credits tonight - so, make sure your DVR is set to record an extra minute or two, just in case.
coda-
A coda is a concluding segment of a piece of music, a dance, or a statement. It's usually short and adds a final embellishment beyond a natural ending point.
The episode that Beth dies was titled Coda. Hmmmmm.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)though, if they're more than Alexandrian red-shirts remains to be seen.
(Deanna, Jessie, Sam, Ron, Aaron, the new doctor with the glasses, and a few others are just barely above red shirt status)

I was hoping since it was the mid-season finale, we'd get an extra long episode. That's usually my biggest complaint with TWD; that I wish all of them were 90 minute slots.

(22,239 posts)A wall is a great idea, but I'd build a fence as well.
Of course, my idea from when they were still in Georgia was to plant bamboo and kudzu around the perimeter. Bamboo grows fast, kudzu grows faster. That shit would make it a living fence that could prevent anything from getting through easily or fast. I've tried walking through a kudzu covered field and it is almost impossible. Maybe some crape myrtle for a hedgerow that would be very difficult to climb through (although that would take years).
Morgan hasn't been there long enough, but that stuff he did to the area in the episode "Clear" would be a pretty good idea as well. Multiple points of defense and traps to buy all the time they need to stop anything coming their way that you would expect from walkers.
NewJeffCT

(56,828 posts)I agree on making a fence - and also some sort of ditch or moat as well.
the barricades that Morgan had were a good idea (they had those outside the gate in the prison afterwards - so, the group can learn from the example.)
Forgot what the barricades with stakes were called, but I think somebody here mentioned them at the start of the season.

Solly Mack
(90,758 posts)Still dangerous.
But since there are 2 sons (Sam and Ron)
If Ron is the only one to survive, he still might be angry and blame Rick.
Michonne is behind Ron, which ups his chances of survival. Sam is connected to his mom, which decreases his...well, that and his mouth.
Rick and Michonne will both protect Carl... because he's Carl and he has Judith.
The good father is on his own, more or less. He can kill walkers though. We've seen him do it. He is resourceful.
Still worried about Abraham. All signs point to his death.
Sasha and Daryl make it back. (I hope)
But someone has to deliver the Negan message.
Maybe the three of them find a way to kill Negan's men. It's not without precedent.
I think Denise is a goner. Morgan's pet will either feed her to the walkers or take her back to the den, where she'll be abused and eventually killed. Unless she's rescued before they get out of Alexandria.
Glenn's not out of the running yet.
Rick will be angry with Morgan. If Morgan survives.
About his pet wolf and about hurting Carol.
And we have to wait 2 months. Bummer.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)If you remember the comics, Rick and company initially get the drop on some of Negan's men, and then Negan himself makes an appearance as a result.
So, it's possible that Daryl, Abraham and Sasha can get the best of Negan's boys, who may be a tad overconfident. Maybe Jesus puts in an appearance to save them? Or, maybe Glenn? Then, we get Jesus taking them to Hilltop and what happens there, and finally the season finale with Negan appearing.
Even without having read the comics, I think the ants eating the cookie is a bad sign for Sam. TWD, as I said in another post in this thread, tends to not be very subtle in their symbolism. The only question is if he takes his mom, brother, or anybody else. down with him when he goes?
Not sure what will happen with Morgan, but I can't see Rick siding with him over Carol. I used to love Morgan, but I think his philosophy is naive in a world where civil society has broken down into petty warlords and marauders.
Solly Mack
(90,758 posts)Their names spell sad.
That would facilitate the meeting. If they do play out that scene and overpower the Saviors.
Yeah, that cookie said it all, I think.
I think it will be Sam playing the part of, you know.
Jessie in the show is much tougher than Jessie in the comics, so maybe it's just Sam left pining for the fjords.
A bitter angry Ron would add extra tension and drama from within. Threats from outside and from within is a constant theme.
I still want Morgan to wake up. He's not Eastman. He doesn't have his education or training. Morgan claims that all life is precious, and yet he feels perfectly OK with allowing others to die as a result of his following his path. He lets people go, allows murderers to live, even lets them take a gun - and had they killed Rick, Morgan would have gone on thinking his way is the right way. Rick might have been dead but Morgan's conscience would be in the clear - and that's all that matters to Morgan.
His pet will probably kill Denise, and Morgan will go on thinking his way is the right way. He told Rick and Michonne that he accepts that his actions could result in the deaths of others. How precious could life be to him?
Morgan has come to believe people can change. And that's true to an extent. What he doesn't take into account is that some people are pretty much the same now as they were before the walkers. The walkers emerging didn't change everyone. Their arrival merely freed some people from the restraints of society. Whatever was keeping them in check before is now gone. They have free reign in the walker world to act however they want - raping, murdering, stealing. Whatever.
They can now do it with little to no consequences. No Johnny Law to stop them.
I think Shane was always a violent man. He was always a bully. Always on the verge of hurting someone. The walker world allowed him to unleash the beast, so to speak. He wasn't as bad a Negan or the wolf-people, but he was on the destructive side of the scale. And in time, he could have grown much worse.
Degrees of and nuances matter a lot in this world.
Morgan was decent at one time. He had a frame of reference of who he used to be. He had something to come back to - his pet wolf doesn't. Morgan not knowing the difference is a danger to everyone.

(1,681 posts)Deana went out like a BOSS! Taking down as many Z's as she could while raging against the dying of the light. Quite heroic.
Carl is really shaping up to be quite a capable fighter. Much more cerebral than Rick. The makings of a future leader are strong with this one. He survives "the walk".
Jessie & her sons won't even make it off the street next episode. Also, Rick must never be allowed to be happy so buh-bye Jesse. Too bad she's cute.
The preacher will survive "the walk" because he's like the weirdo Dr. from "Lost In Space". A troublesome, self-centered, coward that somehow, someway manages to survive no matter what the odds.
Michone...is a force of nature & therefore can't be stopped. A better question would be, do the zombies survive "the walk" with Michone?
Carol & Morgan. Considering she had a concussion she gave as good as she got from Mr. Aikido man. But man this shit with Morgan has got to stop. That scene with them surrendering their guns to the Wolf was bullshit. Not buying that Rosita doesn't ventilate the wolf. Tara might not though. Eugene has a plan!
Daryl/Sasha/Abraham. 3 of Rick's toughest fighters are going to stomp the collective asses of these "Saviors". Plus Daryl needs a bike & I don't think they'll just give him one.
"I ain't nobody's bitch!"
- Daryl Dixon
Rick. Dies at the end of the episode. It's a terribly heroic death & there will be wailing and much self-recrimination. Rick will deliver Judith safely to Carl & with his dying breath he'll tell him to "live". He'll be given a Viking like funeral worthy of sitting at the table of Odin.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)that Carol may have been faking her concussion to get the drop on Morgan.
I think it's pretty clear that if Sam is not a goner, he causes at least a few others to die.
Not sure what will happen with wolf boy and Denise, but she's one of the few Alexandrians that have a bit of depth to them.
good comment on Father Gabriel - he may pull through. But, you can never be certain since he is a black male on the show.
IMO, Carol looked more desperate than 100% going against Morgan in the basement. Remember how ruthless she was fighting the Wolves in the street? Carol is a born-again killer with ice in her veins. She's certainly the type to fake an injury to get the drop on somebody.
The wolf will certainly meet a grisly fate commiserate with his predatory life-style choices. Denise will somehow squeak out a win to live another day.
Dr. Smith, eh, I mean Father Gabriel is most certainly a future "red-shirt" for another day, after he makes up for his sins. I think all black men are "red-shirted" on TWD.
