National Scrapple Day National Scrapple Day is observed annually on November 9th. Scrapple is arguably the first pork food invented in America. For those who are not familiar with scrapple, which is also known by the Pennsylvania Dutch name pon haus, it is traditionally a mush of pork scraps and trimmings combined with cornmeal, wheat flour and spices. (The spices may include, but are not limited to: sage, thyme, savory and black pepper.) The mush is then formed into a semi-solid loaf, sliced and pan-fried. http://nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/World Orphan Day Tragically, millions of children all over the globe have become orphaned for many reasons: war, famine, displacement, disease or poverty. To make sure that they are not forgotten, once a year there is a special day dedicated just to them: World Orphans Day, which falls on the second Monday of each November. This special day has been put in place in order to draw attention to the plight of the worlds orphans, and so on this day people are encouraged to actively participate to help raise awareness, support and funding for motherless and fatherless children worldwide. A noble cause if there ever was one!
World Freedom Day In many parts of the world, freedom is something that is taken for grantedthe freedom to choose any religion we want (or no religion at all), the freedom to be in a relationship with the person we love, the freedom to travel the list goes on. Unfortunately, there are many, many places in the world where these freedoms are not available to most people, who are forced to live empty, unfulfilling lives so the rulers of their countries dont have them thrown in jail or worse. If you dont know what it means to be afraid to voice your opinion, then you can consider yourself very lucky to live in a place where liberty is a priority as well as a basic human right. And like all good things, liberty should be celebrated, and thats what World Freedom Day is all about. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/world-freedom-day/
