In the Salish Sea near British Columbia, Canada, naturalist Clint Rivers photographed a baby orca who perfectly captures that happy feeling we get on Fridays.
The 6-month-old calf, named J50, put on a show for whale watchers by doing belly flops and extremely enthusiastic breaches. At times, she even looks like shes about to fly!
Ive never seen a baby whale breach like J50s been doing, said Michael Harris, executive director of the Pacific Whale Watching Association. Her energy is astounding I guess not unlike my small kids. Shes constantly leaping into the air, and often curling up and doing belly flops.
J50 is part of a local pod that has recently seen a surge in their population numbers. No wonder this little girls so happy!

(58,774 posts)More than a few baby grey whales recently washed up on CA beaches without heads courtesy of baby orcas learning to hunt. It's what they do, but I wouldn't want to cuddle up to one.

(58,774 posts)I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but I know what that cute little girl can do when she gets the opportunity.
A HERETIC I AM
(24,366 posts)expected, that's all. Not from YOU necessarily, just from some DU'er in general. It never seems to matter WHAT the subject is, someone will have a negative response. If it was about fluffy kitties and bunnies, someone would complain they are allergic to rabbit dander!
So....just so I am clear, you want to make sure your readers are aware that a cute, happy, jumping-for-fun baby Orca will someday soon be a Gray Whale head chopper offer.
Is that it?
On a thread ostensibly celebrating a new life in the wild, THAT is the message you brought.
Do I have it right?
Just want to be sure, that's all.
