"Do you have any idea who I am?"

This was just sent to me and it is probably an urban legend but I don't care:

This happened at a New York Airport. This is hilarious. I wish I had the guts of this girl. An award should go to the United Airlines gate agent in New York for being smart and funny, while making her point, when confronted with a passenger who probably deserved to fly as cargo. For all of you out there who have had to deal with an irate customer, this one is for you.

A crowded United Airlines flight was canceled.

A single agent was rebooking a long line of inconvenienced travelers.

Suddenly, an angry passenger pushed his way to the desk. He slapped his ticket on the counter and said, "I HAVE to be on this flight and it has to be FIRST CLASS."

The agent replied, "I'm sorry, sir. I'll be happy to try to help you, but I've got to help these folks first; and then I'm sure we'll be able to work something out."

The passenger was unimpressed.

He asked loudly, so that the passengers behind him could hear, "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO I AM?"

Without hesitating, the agent smiled and grabbed her public address microphone.

"May I have your attention, please?", she began, her voice heard clearly throughout the terminal. "We have a passenger here at Gate 14 WHO DOES NOT KNOW WHO HE IS. If anyone can help him with his identity, please come to Gate 14."

With the folks behind him in line laughing hysterically, the man glared at the United Airlines agent, gritted his teeth, and said, "F*** You!"

Without flinching, she smiled and said, "I'm sorry sir, you'll have to get in line for that, too."

Students at Stanford are pretty smart. During one final exam for a large class, the professor announced very loudly that he would not be accepting any late exams -- the exam would end exactly on the hour, no exceptions. At the end of the hour, he was standing beside this big pile of exams when a student walked up to him and tried to hand in his exam -- late. The professor refused to accept it. The student drew himself up and said "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?" The professor replied that he did not. So the student jammed his exam into the middle of the pile and ran out.

Regardless of what this kid's major may have been, he obviously developed some critical thinking skills. Well done!

To get my degree, I had to take a course in Medieval Spanish. Luckily for me, Medieval Spanish is not so very different from modern Spanish. We got no tests at all during the whole semester, just one final exam. The professor, a wonderful scholarly type, was asked if we were to write it in English or Spanish. He said, "You can write in either English or Spanish. I have been speaking only in Spanish since this course began, so if you understood the material, I'll know it one way or the other. I used to say I didn't care what language you write in, but then one time I was handed a final exam in classical Arabic. From then on, I have restricted it to English or Spanish."

A good one for sure!

Have another: The flight was way behind schedule due to weather and a passenger was giving the gate agent a hard time and had numerous complaints. The agent was polite and smiled the whole time. After the obnoxious passenger had been checked in, the next passenger complimented the agent on her professional behavior. "No problem" said the agent, "that guy is going to New York and his bag is going to Argentina."

I so admire people who can think on their feet. I am not among them.

Our younger son is a recent college grad, and is trying his hand at being an "account executive" (aka sales) for a company that provides IT services. On a recent call, when he offered his business card to the person he was scheduled with, the guy took one look, and said, "Oh, you're with XXX? Didn't you used to be YYY? Here's what I think of your company," and proceeded to tear the business card into pieces. My son pulled several more out of his pocket and said, "Here - I have lots more. We could do this all day." They ended up having a good conversation, the guy apologized for being rude, and offered my son a job.

I would have turned tail and run. I would rather bag French fries at McDonald's than try to sell anything
