All these years in Delaware and I just did the first tour of the Dogfish Head Brewery. Why did it take so long? I don't know - stupidity? But it is an amazing tour topped off with some amazing beers to finish the visit (you get 4 samples free).
First, the tour is free and you have to love that one. With the amount of money Dogfish Head is making why should they charge to have the tour. You get the 4 free samples but 2 of them are the current season brews. (One was a peach beer, Festina Peche, which was yucky and the other was the Firefly Ale which is brewed each year for the Firefly festival in Dover). You get to pick the other 2 samples which I went with the Palo Santo Marron Brown Ale and the Burton Baton.
My friend and I want to go back but on a First Thursday of the month. They have an aging room. It seems any Dogfish Head with a red bottle cap (usually above 9% alcohol) can actually be aged. And on that first Thursday they break open some of the stuff that has been aging to serve to the public. I actually have a bottle of the Theobroma that has been in my fridge now for about 2 years. I think I even have a 3 year old bottle of Bitches Brew at home too.

(95,337 posts)According to the schedule they brew that in the winter time. So it wasn't available. Usually anything with a fruity flavor to it I avoid, I like hoppy, heavy, bitter stuff. But my friend would probably like it. She liked the peach beer.

I lied.
I also like Lewes, Cape Henlopen, Rehoboth when the tourists are not there.
