men, some of them not particularly admirable, who are on them now?
I know there's been talk of putting someone other than Andrew Jackson on the $20. But how does anybody
go about this?

(4,851 posts)I am all for honoring someone more modern, and frankly, more admirable. I doubt we would ever take George off the $1 or Abe off the $5 given their historical status. Jefferson is pretty lofty in terms of historical worship, but we gave him the "pooper" of US currency on the $2 bill, so I bet people would be fine with that loss. Hamilton ($10), Jackson ($20), Grant ($50) and Franklin ($100) can certainly be changed without upsetting too many people.
I say we push for the 50 Cent $100 bill. It would totally confuse tourists.
Otherwise, I think the Beatles would be a fine addition to the $20. Sadly, as Brits, they might not be allowed.

I would suggest, Mark Twain on the cent, Elizabeth Cady Stanton on the nickel, keeping Roosevelt on the dime, Elvis Presley on the quarter, keeping Kennedy and Anthony on the half dollars and dollars. Washington and Lincoln stay on the one and five dollars, Jefferson on the two dollar, Reagan on the three dollar bill, (I know we don't make a three dollar bill but Ronzo was as phony as one) Martin Luther King on the 10 dollar bill, Truman on the twenty, keeping Grant on the fifty and Franklin on the hundred. This last is because it IS all about the Benjamins and we can't say that if there is no Benjamin.

(4,851 posts)The man puts on a great show, works his butts off on stage and usually has some surprise guests in the major city shows.
I like Twain on the penny though.

(36,246 posts)Why do rock "fans" think EVERYONE likes rock ? Or even finds it tolerable ?
Why not adorn our currency with scientists, explorers, artists, authors, and yes, musicians, like other countries do ? Maybe even throw in one of the more tolerable noisemakers *now and then*, to please the plebes.

(56,828 posts)all of the Republicans will vote to put Reagan on the $20 bill instead of Jackson.
Democrats will split the vote between several more worthy candidates and Reagan will win. (Truman, JFK, Clinton, Obama, MLK, etc)

(3,127 posts)...the Treasury should sell the 14 cent bills for ten bucks apiece.

(3,275 posts)Thanks to the Republicans, I don't see a lot of $20s but still the idea of looking at that face gets me sick. I was a little kid when he was president and I knew he was a horrible president.

(3,127 posts)...Jimmie Rodgers would be on the $1.00. Memphis Minnie on the $5.00. Elvis on the $10.00. Muddy Waters on the $20.00. Mother Maybelle and the Carter Sisters on the $50.00. And Johnny Cash on the $100.00.

(5,604 posts)but upon further thought, what the fuck is money anyway. Its dirty and sleazy, there is no art involved. Lets keep Coltrane to Cobain free from bankers, and instead revered in the hearts of the fans; which is priceless.
