Medical marijuana is such a safe, effective, and (relatively) inexpensive treatment for a wide range of medical ailments. I hope it becomes legal some day. (And not just for me!)

so my relative who can't work because she has fibro. now can't work because she can't pass a piss test plus risk of getting arrested

that's one of those "treatments" that do nothing to help the patient, they just enrich whoever is selling the damn "treatment"

of which there are already so many for this condition

In my medical opinion, fibromyalgia is one of the most over-diagnosed illnesses out there; right up there with ADHD. I don't know what it is about the condition, but the ones who have it (or at least have a documented history of it, or have self-diagnosed themselves with it) can't wait to tell me they have it. It becomes the cornerstone of their identity.

Take anyone else's personal assessment, and it'll go something like this:

"Hi, I'm Bob, I have brown eyes, and I like pizza and classical music."

"Hello, I'm Susan. I live in New York. I knit, and I like kittens."

And then there's:

"Hi, my name is Joyce. I have fibromyalgia."

Oy!

It seems to be a perennially popular 'trendy' disease.

BTW, the standard of care for fibromyalgia is tricyclic antidepressants, like amitriptylene.

But, hey! If the marijuana works, go for it!...

Well, a specialist surprised the hell out of me when he told me I had it and that it was a result of trauma and PTSD. And he wants me to NOT use anti-depressants but bio-feeback and EMDR.

Trust me, I'd rather have anything else but this that also includes interstitial cystitis-- no known cause, no known cure. Read up on that chronic disease and then tell me about trendy.

And pet diagnosing peeves. This one happens to be one of mine.

Plus, there are authentic cases out there. If you say you have it, graywarrior, I believe you.

It's just the ones who insist that they have it, but their HPI (history of present illness) adds up to polymyalgia rheumatica, instead. Or lupus, or chronic fatigue syndrome, or rheumatoid arthritis, or ankylosing spondylitis, or hypothyroidism, etc...
