From a current Floridian.
If there's one thing that I've noticed Florida ex-pats seem to talk about missing the most (other than the weather or the beaches), it's Publix subs. People love to rave on and on about subs from Publix.
Now, perhaps regrettably, I haven't had a sub from Publix in quite a while. But after hearing about how much people miss their Publix subs, I have to wonder if I'm taking a good thing for granted.
Anyone have any input on this?

(6,907 posts)I left after high school, stay a portion of the year now.
I live in Tennessee.
We have a publix a couple miles from my house in Tennessee.
I don't think their subs are very good.
There is always a long line here at the counter so a lot of people like them.
The cuban bread is better at publix in florida than at publix in Tennessee.

(16,062 posts)I made the mistake of going to a Subway a couple of days ago. Worst sub I have ever had. Absolutely no taste.
The best thing about Publix is they will make you any kind of sub any way you want it. My boss likes roast beef on wheat bread. Not a sub roll. They will walk over and grab a loaf, open it up and make him a couple of sandwiches.
I love Publix subs. But watch out for the spicy mustard...it's HOT.

(43,164 posts)And given that the only major competitor to Publix in my area is Walmart (Winn Dixie and Albertsons have receded around me), I'll still take Publix any day over Walmart. At least the stores are bright, cheerful and clean.
Publix also provides for a lot of employee ownership after you have been working there a few years.
The quality of food from the deli counter varies wildly from store to store (and from year to year) depending on the quality of the employees working at the deli in that particular store. It varies from outstanding to piss poor.
