The edgers are 'ell' shaped metal strips.
They extend over both the vertical and horizontal edges of the steps.
The background looks like a street or sidewalk.
Not a wall.
The cat is coming up the stairs.

An outdoor stairwell into a cellar would show daylight at the top of the stairs.

He looks like he's going down to me.

better than me at this sort of thing but I am confused by their answers.

Mike Huckabee see Jesus, Rick Santorum sees the potential for Man on Cat Sex, John Boehner says the pic makes him dizzy so he needs some bourbon, Mitch McConnell says no to up or down, Sarah Palin sees Russia, John McCain sees a need to bomb the whole place to smithereens and Dick Cheney says he doesn't know, doesn't care - just kill the damn cat already and Obama is the worst president EVER.

I don't think they understood the question.
