diner mugs. I have a few from the turn of the last century. I don't even know how many I have.

I stopped buying them because I have no place to display all of them. I put out a few dozen at a time, and rotate them.

They are common, because they were so indestructible. I started buying only Victor mugs that had unusual logos or coloring.

Victor mugs are heavy, with their name incised on the bottom.

I have Shenango, Sterling, Syracuse, Hall, you name it. I think the old mugs are beautiful things. But collecting can turn into hoarding, and I had to stop acquiring new ones. Also, when I began buying, they were inexpensive. Now people are beginning to buy and sell them for more money.

There is also something called Mid-Century Modern that is attracting a lot of attention from younger people. I have mugs from the fifties that have gone up in value. I just keep them around because I like them.

Not because I collect mugs, but because I like how heavy they are. When preheated, they will keep coffee hot longer than most. As you probably know, they were made from electrical insulator ceramic.

Most of the ones I have are plain although one has a Navy logo of a ship I've never heard of. I found that one at work in the back of a cabinet with dust all over it. Nobody claimed it, so it was mine. That was the first Victor mug I got and it's still my favorite, although I have one from the Black Dog at Martha's Vinyard which is quite nice.

when I was in college. Our old dorm had the student union and a college cafeteria in it at one time. They got rid of the old china, and I acquired three mugs. They are tan Sterling mugs, from the thirties or forties. When I tried to buy more years later, I got interested in the other mugs.

I use the Sterling mugs all the time. I have used them since the sixties. I, too, like the heaviness, and the fact that they keep the coffee or tea warm for such a long time.

STRESS: The confusion created when one's mind overrides the body's basic desire to choke the living daylights out of some asshole who desperately deserves it.
