Related: Culture Forums, Support Forumsdo you rinse off cans before you open them?
This question became a discussion at a recent family gathering. I am firmly in the rinse first then open. My dearly loved nephew opened a can w/o rinsing it. 5 females, 40+ nearly had strokes, 1 female ~25 was neutral, 3 males 40+ said never rinse, 1 25 yr old man said What"? when one of his aunts said "what are you doing?" (not me)
FTR, I also rinse fruit off before I slice it.

Had they been good singers they may have had a cool gimmick.

(21,839 posts)I always wash the top of the bottle too (the 3 gallon bottles). The top of the bottle could be dirty -- being on the truck, sitting outside my door when it's delivered...... who knows what's touched it. And that's the part you are tipping into the dispenser:

I'd bet there are more bacteria on the cutting edge of the can opener than on top of the can.

(3,995 posts)My ex used to work in a distribution warehouse. The guys who worked on the docks were pretty disgusting. One guy thought it was funny to pee on the merchandise. He was eventually reported and fired, but not by any of his immediate co-workers. They all thought it was hilarious. Heaven's knows how many products he peed on for fun.
Not to mention, those workers, trucks and docks can get pretty filthy.
Rinse. Rinse twice.

(10,565 posts)I also know that there are bacteria everywhere, but the human immune system is really awesome!
I also know that children who are raised in environments that are too clean (no animals, parents spraying that "antibacterial" crap everywhere, etc) are way more likely to suffer from asthma, excema, and allergies.

I have a sister-in-law who thinks people who don't wipe off cans are courting death, but I've made it into my 70s.
