It was seamless, it was as if we had been apart for 2 weeks instead of 39 years. I felt comfortable, safe, and loved. My cats even came out, something they never do. It felt right.
He asked me to marry him.
And I said yes.
We decided to wait for awhile to figure out the logistics, etc, but for the first time in years I am completely happy and I think he is too. After my husband died, I never thought I would or could feel this way. For all of you out there feeling hopeless, I'm here to tell you it's not. I found love again at 59. It's awesome!

(34,367 posts)meet again" (or get together--it's hazy). Yeah, who knew? He told me tonight after he'd returned home, that the last time we'd slept together was during the Ford administration. Gack. He's a retired consumer protection lobbyist, very liberal, and funny as hell. My dream man, sigh.

(3,911 posts)She's 80, he's 81. This is after she grieved the loss of my dad to Parkinson's after a 50 year marriage. I doubt they'll get married, but she did pick up and move halfway across the country to be near him. And she's stupidly-giddy-teenager happy. It's really wonderful to see.
So, all the best to you and your beau. Enjoy your next grand adventure!

(48,217 posts)In 1992, she met up with her old boyfriend from 1947. Both of them were widowed and had not been terribly happy in their marriages. They talked on the phone, and when they finally met up, they were engaged within a week. It was great to see my mother acting like a 16-year-old, because she had been rather depressed before that and complaining that "her life was over." The two of them got married about two months later and enjoyed 16 years together.

Second, run a criminal and financial background check. Yes--I am sounding cynical, but if you were my sister, that's the advice I'd give. Hope that it comes back clean, but protect yourself...!

(3 posts)i don't think the 18 years i spent in federal prison should come between catbyte and our love. i've told her that i still harbor warm affections for my cellmate "catfish," but none of that will prevent me from being true to her, loving and protecting her forever. and she gave me the wrong PIN for her ATM...

(3 posts)the only time i spent was 35 years with my soulmate. unfortunately, lou gehrig's disease took the last 6 years together and robbed us of what would have been the "wonder years." catbyte spent 30 years with her soulmate, and lost her "wonder years" too." my goal for 2015 was to clean the garage, and then catbyte dropped into my life after 39 years. fuck the garage! this story is beyond explainable. i'm just going to enjoy the ride. i've been in pain since even before my wife died. i now feel relaxed, comfortable, and loved. catbyte is one fine woman.

(20,176 posts)and that's rare because I'm a misanthropic cynic if ever there was one.
Actually, I think it's great. Sometimes the right people come into your life at the right time; sometimes the right people who were the wrong people or the wrong time come back into your life at the right time.
