After 33 (count 'em) years of contact lenses and their attendant disinfection/washing/losing them/cracking/protein deposits/being blind in the morning/having to take them out before bedtime, I'm back to eyeglasses voluntarily. Now I have to clean my glasses *grumbles* Still, compared to the micro-hassles I listed, I'll gladly clean my specs!

(3,818 posts)but I hated always looking for reading glasses when I needed them. I'd have to dislodge one contact in order to read something if I couldn't find reading glasses and I usually couldn't. So much easier to just wear glasses.

(37,457 posts)The only reason I wore contacts was for vanity reasons. Now I really don't care any longer. Yes, with contacts, you don't have any problems with peripheral vision like you do with eyeglasses, but how hard is it to turn your head ? I'll gladly clean my glasses in exchange for the benefits.

The default is glasses. The contacts are for driving since the correction is better.
Prescription shades are one of the great inventions of the 20th century, for driving.

(115,614 posts)eventually got tired of the hassles: itchy eyes, cleaning, occasionally losing them, all that stuff. I finally went back to glasses and don't miss the contacts at all.

(30,717 posts)When I begin to need reading glasses on top of contacts, it just seemed like too much trouble. After my cataract surgery, I don't need the contacts at all. I still use reading glasses.
