I always felt a sense of kindred spirit with the mom from "Serial Mom". One of her victims she killed because she did wear white after Labor Day.

Anymore I don't care what other people do however for the life of me I cannot wear white slacks/pants or white non-sneaker shoes after Labor Day or before Memorial Day.

If I owned any white I'd wear it year round just to annoy you.
You're just lucky that white makes me look yellow.

before Memorial Day, mom would buy white dresses and shoes for my two sisters and me. We would wear them to the Memorial Day parade downtown.

It was like a tradition.

Then, every fall just before school started we would get either the brown and white saddle shoes, or a pair of black patent leather Mary Janes. And some new dresses.

That was a long time ago, and to this day I too can't wear white between Labor Day and Memorial Day. Just feels...weird.

Oh, and white during summer...I have trouble wearing any light color during summer because I'm such a dirt and food magnet.

I think the fabric would be more of a factor than the color. I love a red dress though, wear it when it is appropriate for the temperature.

Body conscious maybe? I think it would be a beautiful splash of color to go with the Spring flowers, especially if it has a little swing to it.

V neck with an empire waist and swingy skirt - this is a step out for someone who grew up wearing a navy blue school uniform - with a clip on bow tie!

Color is no longer seasonal. Use accessories to accent the typical seasonal colors, if you'd like. There really are no more fashion rules.

But...it still makes my eyes twitch when I see patterns mixed. That was a GOOD rule! Plaid and stripes...

Once, decades ago, I got called into the HR manager's office of the fairly large publishing company I worked for seemingly out of the blue. He was clearly uncomfortable, but mainly because he was trying to be serious. A coworker had complained that my blatant disregard for color and pattern matching in my clothing made it difficult for her to come to work. If I recall, I was wearing some bright turquiose tennis shoes, baggy purple or red socks, neon patterned knee-length shorts and a plaid shirt. I knew the outfit was a bit much, even for me, but it had been dark when I'd dressed that morning.
The HR guy finally began laughing, even as he explained that he was obligated to make a note in my "permanent record". I don't think it adversely affected my career with that company, and I did tone things down a little. It had never occurred to me that other people might be seriously bothered by my lack of attention to style guides.

if someone breaks the rules. I'm thinking of the story of the experiment where men went to take job interviews minus a tie, and one interviewer gave the applicant money and sent him out to buy a tie!
