For me, I just don't get why everyone loves Boyhood. It was just meh. I loved Interstellar and think it should have at least been nominated.
I still have to see a bunch of the nominees, but I did love Birdman and Grand Budapest Hotel. And Interstellar.

The rest I will catch on Netflix or HBO in the coming months.

(31,316 posts)and the Academy ignored the black female director of Selma, while still nominating it for
Best Picture. This has happened before, though, that films get nominated for Best Picture
and the director is not nominated.

"The Imitation Game" was perfect.
"Boyhood" was a great movie mostly because of it being shot over 12 years. The story itself wasn't much.
"Grand Budapest Hotel" was visually stunning, but I still love "Moonrise Kingdom" the best.
"Wild" was an emotional ride. A complicated story told very well. I could see Reese Witherspoon winning best actress for the role.
"Interstellar" was epic. I loved it and the big concepts it has at its core. It was also visually stunning with a complex story.
My heart is with "The Imitation Game" and "Wild" winning big at the Oscars.

(9,874 posts)Ever since the first Wes Anderson film, which was raved about and I saw for the reason, I find that the man and his fans are apparently from a different planet than I am. I see nothing the least bit interesting about any of them. Grand Budapest Hotel had great art direction, so I will give it that. Maybe it's a generational thing, but I forget his films before the credits are finished rolling.

American Sniper, Gone Girl, The Imitation Game, Selma and Still Alice out of the major nominees.
Edited: HOW COULD I FORGET WHIPLASH?!?
I would rank them (based on how I liked them):
1. Whiplash
2. The Imitation Game
3. Selma
4. Still Alice
5. Gone Girl
6. American Sniper
I do think, though, that Selma was probably a better film than The Imitation Game. I just liked The Imitation Game better.
I thought Ava DuVernay and David Oyelowo deserved nominations from Selma.
I thought Oyelowo was better than Bradley Cooper, although Cooper was very good.
I thought Gone Girl could get a Picture and Adapted Screenplay nod. I enjoyed that film.
I plan on seeing most, if not all, of the nominated pictures.
I hope Julianne Moore wins; she was fantastic.
Edited: Saw Cake with Jennifer Aniston last night. Ok movie, more like a Lifetime or After School Special. Aniston was pretty good.
Edited: I am midway through Boyhood. I LOVE IT!

(4,412 posts)I work with a guy who gives me all the break down on the films. I used to be able to see way more films before I had kids and back when I didn't need my cash for more important things. Anyway he says Arquette and Hawk with get the nod. Definately Cumberbatch and Julianne Moore. He loved Boyhood so he's going with Linklater for director. He chose The Imitation Game for best pic.

I have an ongoing argument with my daughter that I'd like to see a floor/minimum box office requirement to be nominated for Best Picture. Artistry is wonderful, but I think someone actually needs to have wanted to pay money to see your film. OK - that's out of my system.

This is a tough year to call. There's been buzz about Carrell's performance for months, and I think he takes it. I'm guessing that the Academy will go Iñárritu or Director and GBH for Picture, but it could easily go Vice Versa, or they could go "Theory of Everything." I think "American Sniper" might win in other years, but the Academy will likely go with the "Eastwood already has one" argument.
Suporting Actor is an incredible field this year. It could go any way, but I'm guessing that the Academy gives it to Simmons for his great performance, as well as his overall body of work.
I have no sense for who wins Actress at this point. I'm going with the GG pick of Arquette for Supporting Actress.

I thought Birdman was pretentious self-indulgent crap. But I think MK will win BA.
Haven't seen much else on the list.
