I'm about to make myself into a soccer fan (artificial) - Barcelona. All arbitrary.

The colors are blue and maroon/"claret". So if you see me in a jersey with those colors, you're supposed to know what it's about.

Why is Qater involved in this?!1 Not to mention Nike!1 I use XXL, in case you're my Secret Santa, thanks in advance!1

4. The blue/red don't exactly seem chic to me, but I'm curious about what a hipster deal looks like

Not to mention that my protruding abdomen is hard put to look hipster in anything. At least the stripes are vertical, so I will look like a cantaloupe instead of the Michelin Man.

FC Energie Cottbus e. V. is a German football club based in Cottbus, Lusatia (Brandenburg). It was founded in 1963 as SC Cottbus in what was East Germany. After the reunification of Germany, Energie played six seasons in the fourth tier of the German football league system but now drift between the Bundesliga top division and 2. Bundesliga. The club will begin the 2014–15 season in the 3. Liga.

The team took on the name FC Energie in 1990 at the time of German reunification.

After years as a II division or lower-table I division side in East Germany, Energie has emerged as one of the few former DDR sides to enjoy relative prosperity in a united Germany. After five seasons playing tier III football, they earned promotion to the 2. Bundesliga in 1997, winning the Regionalliga Nordost, and then played their way into the Bundesliga in 2000, where they managed a three year stay. A key player in their Bundesliga run was Vasile Miriuţă, an imaginative midfield player who played a big part in the team's promotion. After being relegated, Energie narrowly missed a prompt return to the top tier, losing out to 1. FSV Mainz 05 on goal differential. In season 2004–05 Energie struggled into both financial (reported debts of €4.5 million and sports problems: The season goal of promotion was missed by far – the club escaped the relegation to third tier Regionalliga by scoring one more goal (season overall) than SV Eintracht Trier 05 while having the same amount of points and goal differential. During season the manager and the chairman were replaced. Next season (2005–06) was a much more successful one – the club has returned to play in the First Division Bundesliga after winning promotion.

The Bundesliga season 2006–07 resulted in a 13th place and a club record in Bundesliga season points (41). Energie Cottbus was the only club from East Germany playing in the Bundesliga until 1. FC Nürnberg knocked the team out on 1 June 2009. German Chancellor Angela Merkel is an honorary member of the club.On Jul 22, 2014, FC Energie Cottbus have agreed a shirt sponsorship deal with IPS Karton.eu. The deal will be worth €250,000 (US$340,000).[1]

(germinal beershot, WHO KNOWS?!1)

Koninklijke Beerschot Antwerpen Club (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈkoːnɪŋkləkə ˈbeːrsxɔt ˈɑntʋɛrpə n) ˈklʏp]), simply known as Beerschot AC [ˈbeːrsxɔt aːˈseː], was a Belgian football club based in southern Antwerp. Beerschot played in the Belgian Pro League from 1999–2000 (as Germinal Beerschot) until 2012–13, when they were relegated not only through their league position, but also lost their professional license through financial issues, being officially declared bankrupt on 21 May 2013 - one week after the season had ended.

********QUOTE, from Wiki ********

The blue and red colours of the shirt were first worn in a match against Hispania in 1900. Several competing theories have been put forth for the blue and red design of the Barcelona shirt. The son of the first president, Arthur Witty, claimed it was the idea of his father as the colours were the same as the Merchant Taylor's School team. Another explanation, according to author Toni Strubell, is that the colours are from Robespierre's First Republic. In Catalonia the common perception is that the colours were chosen by Joan Gamper and are those of his home team, FC Basel.

The Crystal Palace was a cast-iron and plate-glass building originally erected in Hyde Park, London, England, to house the Great Exhibition of 1851. More than 14,000 exhibitors from around the world gathered in the Palace's 990,000 square feet (92,000 m2) of exhibition space to display examples of the latest technology developed in the Industrial Revolution. Designed by Sir Joseph Paxton, the Great Exhibition building was 1,851 feet (564 m) long, with an interior height of 128 feet (39 m).[1] Because of the recent invention of the cast plate glass method in 1848, which allowed for large sheets of cheap but strong glass, it was at the time the largest amount of glass ever seen in a building and astonished visitors with its clear walls and ceilings that did not require interior lights, thus a "Crystal Palace".

The name Crystal Palace came from the playwright Douglas Jerrold. On 13 July 1850 he wrote in the satirical magazine Punch as 'Mrs Amelia Mouser' about the forthcoming Great Exhibition of 1851, referring to a palace of very crystal, a name that was subsequently picked up and repeated even though the building had not been approved at that stage.[2]

After the exhibition, the building was rebuilt in an enlarged form on Penge Common next to Sydenham Hill, an affluent South London suburb full of large villas. It stood there from 1854 until its destruction by fire in 1936.

Liverpool = Carlsberg beer
Man Utd, believe it or not = Chevy
LA Galaxy = Herbalife
San Jose Earthquakes = Amway!

and of course, New York Red Bulls =... guess?

And Nike has similar marketing deals with some of the US major leagues.
