Hold me. My Albert is in the hospital.

Albert is my 4 year old iMac. He wouldn't wake up this morning. Just stared at me with that unblinking, Apple shaped eye. After taking his temp and trying some home remedies, it looks like he's got a bad HD.

The nurse told me he'd be there for at least 48 hours (2 working days, or 50 years in nerd time.). It will more than likely be 4-5 days before he can come home.

My husband will be devastated. I'm going to have to watch TeeVee with him or let him watch me play video games. Poor guy.

I'm not even at home and I can already feel the deafening silence, the empty space on my desk, the brightness of the small lamp behind where he would sit.

I'm scared.

I am sorry - it is just that you did such a great job writing that as funny! I especally like "48 hours (2 working days, or 50 years in nerd time.)"

I have been having a lot of connection problems, I feel ya'lls' (is that correct?) pain.

The folks at Apple told me that they no longer made the parts to fix Albert's twin and I was out of luck.

No joke. Planned obsolescence.

They lied. Okay, misled. The parts are "out there", but Apple won't order those parts from third party. Best bet, find an Apple doctor that isn't directly affiliated with Apple. The closest Apple store is 2 hours from here, so I have a local company that has an Apple doc locked in a back room.

Water splashed on the keyboard, rushed to the plastic pan filled with rice and then prayers.

Hopeless, I went to Best Buy for a new MacBook Pro. At 4 years and only 126 GB in her SS HD, it would be time for a new one soon, anyway.

Well, once I got Amber home it's almost as if Rosalyn knew something was up and, low and behold, she came back to life!

The two of them get along well, share files (but not AC charging cords, alas).

I think you need an new or standby unit, you can call him Austin, or Logan!

PS top baby names last year: Liam and Emma

...don't ever let your cat knock a Pepsi onto your keyboard. I only needed a new keyboard, but my old one was one that I loved that they didn't make anymore.

Chances are, she just need a break after the bath you gave her.

I'm thinking of getting a (refurbished) iPad for my bday in a couple of months. Not a true "backup" if Albert fails, but it would keep me busy.

---Liam and Emma are better than some of the top baby names in the past.

So not like an iMac, where you can just get a new one.

The MacBook air doesn't even have swappable batteries (none of them do now), and I think I gave her a full day in rice, but it took two before she awoke!

Enjoy the iPad, I love mine!
