Swinging by the Neck
If the neck of anyone grows stiff or the muscles are twisted awry, it is a portent that that person will die by the neck.
The 51st Psalm was called The Neck Verse. One sentenced to capital punishment may save his neck by invoking the verse. This practice saved many a rascally priest and monk whilst leaving illiterate criminals to swing by the neck for lesser offenses.
