Seriously.
One of those heavily accented scammers,
"Hello Ma'm. My name is Steve Martin and I am calling you from Microsoft. There is a problem with your Windows"
I just laughed and hung up. If I were quicker witted I would have riffed the hell out of him. They really should google before they make up their monikers.

(46,700 posts)In my "yut" I got two prank calls which were sexually perverse. After I got caller ID, I received none. But I do have a practice of not picking up the phone if I don't recognize who is calling.

(60,010 posts)I don't bother with caller ID since scammers can spoof it.
Instead I used the answering machine to screen calls. Ringer is off.
People know to wait til the beep so I know who is calling.
considering I have maybe 5 people who call my phone, it is no big deal.
but damn, that phone rings at least once an hour, esp. busy on weekends.

(2,030 posts)but I have gotten that same call from "Tom Cruise" and "Kevin Smith". Next time I pick one of those up, I'm going to ask to speak to the guy that called me last time - Nipsey Russell.
