The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsNot only do I love the Grateful Dead, I also love Mr. Bob Dylan.
I've spent a good portion of my afternoon listening to Bob Dylan Radio -- they play all sorts of dylan stuff. Live concerts. people who have covered him and the covers he has done of other people.
I loved this cover:

(11,589 posts)I see that and I am reminded of growing up in the Hudson valley near the Pig Pink, and also near Levon Helms home
Tobin S.
(10,418 posts)She's seen him many times in concert. I've known her for 3.5 years and I've gone to see him twice with her in that time. Although I'm not a big fan, I do appreciate his artistry and what he's done for music in general including for a lot of lesser known and up and coming bands. If it weren't for Bob Dylan, I would have never heard of Wilco or the Carolina Chocolate Drops, both of whom have opened for him at the shows I saw and I really dig them.
And you cannot deny the legend that is Bob Dylan. I feel like every time I see him live I'm becoming a part of an important history of music.

Who sings that cover of House of the Rising Sun? It's a nice version. I think Dave Von Ronk taught the song to Bob. Of course The Animals did an amazing cover, based on Bob's version & adding organ. Nina Simone & many others have covered it too.

(21,925 posts)because of its simple and deeply touching lyrics.
The Girl From the North Country has been covered by others, but this French version (La Fille Du Nord) from the mid 1960s has always been my favorite cover of this Dylan tune. The French translation is pretty close but instead of Canada, the girl is from Norway and you have to cross herds of reindeer to find her.

(11,589 posts)This french version is beautiful. I do not speak or understand french. This is just beautiful.
Thank you for this.

(11,589 posts)Personally, I think he took some of the bite out of it.
It's all good, Earle is another musician who blows me away.
I still feel like Dylan's version was venomous. Scathing. It was a total FU.
