I told Mrs. Obvious about it and we tried to work out the math ("I heard her pray the night Chicago died" ... So the singer would've been how old at the time of the song? No, that can't be right, can it?
So I looked it up on Wikipedia. They made it up out of whole cloth from old gangster movies. They even sent a copy to Mayor Daley who was not amused.
Oh well. Still a good song.
