Have any of you ever heard about the Bachelor?

That show is crazy. I cannot believe a man will go on tv to find a wife and 25 women are willing to go on too!

I tuned in tonight as nothing was on and he sent away a girl who really liked him! She was really broken hearted, now am hooked, have to see what happens next week!

Any thoughts, I know this is frivolous, hence putting it here!

1. I haven't seen it.

They also have a Bachelorette show.

2. I don't watch any of the reality

TV shows. I look at them like the modern day version of going to the Colosseum in ancient Rome. It is cheap entertainment that really adds no value to this world and keeps the attention of the masses away from paying attention to what the 1%ers and Conservatives are doing in this country. It is kind of the legal drug of choice for so many.

3. We are almost certainly exact opposites, but I don't watch reality TV either.

I say exact opposites because I refuse to watch any news except the Evening News of the broadcast networks. There is exactly as much actually going on in the world today as in 1980, 1970, 1960 and 1950...there is no need for 24-hour news-cycles or the channels dedicated to it. It's 23ish hours of filler a day and the manufactured stories to fill it that are destroying America. We're not more well-informed of our nation or our world...we're just more crammed full of unimportant news-shit.

If it were up to me we'd ban the cable news channels and kill all the pundits. Shakespeare said something similar about lawyers but I am certain that is because he knew nothing of punditry and the monotonous drone of manufactured news.

My objection to reality TV is largely the same. It's manufactured reality, just like the cable news.

4. I try not to watch too much news on any tv

station as the concept of investigative journalism no longer exists for the most part. Local news stations are either focused on the latest crime, raising alarm on the weather forecast or just plain a local version of Fox news. The local newspaper is often referred to as the Daily Disappointment.

6. "Reality" shows are really cheap to produce, too.

I'm pretty sure they don't have to pay their "real" people to perform. Not that they perform very well…
And when I hear a "reality" show principal making dramatic statements, I am reminded of how much we all need good writers.
Bah.

7. Heard of it but never cared to watch it.

Yes, frivolous is a good word to describe it.

9. I think it's sad, for the reason you mentioned, and others

I watched it a couple of times when it first started just to see how they choreographed it.
I don't like the idea of twenty-five women vying for the attention of one man, as if he's such a prize!
Turning the process of discovering a potential loving relationship into a competition turns me off. They are like oil and water.

I have a feeling your curiosity will be replaced by disappointment sooner than later, so don't let us make you feel guilty!
