The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThere will be no LOLcats this Sunday. My apologies to all.
The 'puter came back Sunday night, and worked OK for a day or so, but the blue screen issues have returned. I can't afford to replace it at the moment, much as I would love to. I will do all I can to get it repaired before the week is out, but it's better to say this now, than to leave you all hanging come Sunday. I know (boy howdy do I) how much you all enjoy the pics, and I wish I could promise that I'll have the machine fixed by then.
Know that I enjoy Sundays on DU as much as anyone, perhaps more. Gathering the pics often starts early Monday morning, and usually doesn't end until Saturday afternoon. My week is a slow build up until the pics come out, and I have an absolute blast doing it. Your laughter, smiles, Awws and Squeees make it all the more enjoyable, and the lovely comments and extra pics you share make what little labor there is in it more than worthwhile.
Again, my apologies. I hope to get this resolved soon. Until then, much love DU, as always.

(9,385 posts)there is one gimmick I've learned that worked on mine when it blue screened. Unplug it and take the battery out for a little while, then put it back in. I was shocked that it worked, but it was fine afterwards.

(11,175 posts)I was told to unplug the laptop, remove the battery, and then try to turn the computer on. In other words, hold down the power button for 20 seconds or so -- with, of course, nothing happening. Then re-install the battery and plug the computer back in.
My technical expertise doesn't come close to understanding why the guaranteed-to-fail attempt to start the computer should accomplish anything. What the heck, I guess it can't hurt.

(287 posts)The kitties will have an extra week to practice up on their cuteness for when your computer is back in business.
Thanks for brightening my Sundays with the kittehs.

(544 posts)There isn't anyone where who hasn't experienced computer issues. I, for one, have thought about putting my foot thru the screen on more occasions than I care to admit not to mention curses and hexes on software giants, hardware manufacturers and ISP providers. Doesn't help, but makes me feel better.

(4,033 posts)just wanted you to know that on Sundays when I turn on my computer I go directly to Sunday LOLCats. It makes my day and week. Thank you!
And I don't have a cat and never will, because I live in a no pets condo, and I prefer dogs.

(3,709 posts)So sorry about your computer... I had issues in the summer and finally had to bite the bullet and buy a new one.
Look at it this way.... you deserve a weekend off!

(24,367 posts)I am fascinated by Japan and it is a country I would dearly love to visit, but I think I would need a native speaker as a guide the whole time! Being the dumb American I am (though I've lived overseas in the past) I'm sure I would do something bad enough to get me booted out!

(1,827 posts)Try a program called NirSoft BlueScreen View
It helps narrow down exactly what driver/process is causing the blue screens. I actually used it to figure out a "Kernel-Power" error. Ended up being a bad USB 3.0 driver for my motherboard.

(3,414 posts)with advice posted in DU's computer help group: I'm running windows 7. I downloaded Malwarebytes (free program), ran the update, and did a complete scan. It found several bad boys, which I deleted. I then downloaded Microsoft security essentials software (also free), disabled my lame security program, updated the Microsoft SE software and ran a full scan. It found two really bad programs: Win32/Homekeylogger (yikes! very bad!) and Win32/Mailpassview (also very bad). These were deleted and I've seen no more blue screen since. Hope this helps!
