4. Submerge!

My uncle went fishing with his Dad (my grandfather) and Uncle Gerald. This is during gas rationing in WW2, and it took Uncle G. weks of scrounging to come up with enough gas to get to the lake with the old rowboat. They had just gotten onto the lake, when some fool starts racing around with a speedboat (terrible gas hogs then) . Uncle G., having his day of fishing ruined, starts yelling "Submerge! Submerge!" Dammed if shortly afterward, the boat starts taking water and submerging!

Later genealogical research has determined that "Uncle" was really Cousin Gerald. When this was presented to my uncle, he said" I don't know what he was, but he was somethin' else!" That's my submarine race story, and I'm stickin' to it.

The finish wasn't nearly as exciting as you thought, but you were so happy, double-fisting your 40's of Blue Bull, and clutching that "winning" betting slip in your greasy fist, we just didn't have the heart to tell you.
