Is anyone else here using Firefox 10.0?

If so, is it behaving for you? I have noticed some weirdness since I upgraded, and I'm wondering if it's my computer, or the upgrade, or if I have some sort of malware. One of the odd things is that the cursor doesn't always appear, yet I can still type something and post it on sites such as this one.

1. I just updated.... I haven't noticed anything yet, but I've only had about an hour with it.

That will drive me nuts, though, if it happens.

2. Are you running any extensions?

They may not be compatible with 10.0. I know I had to go through a re-login procedure with 10.0 with my bank on the very same computer after I updated to 10.0. The bank claimed I had never logged in from this computer before.

3. I am not sure it's the extensions.

Most of the bugs seem to be with the cursor and the URL drop-down. The cursor issue seems to come and go. I don't think it's an incompatibility thing with the extensions. It did a check when I booted the new version the first time. I suspect this new version is kind of buggy, or else my old computer is too old for it.

17. But, then again...

I am only having problems with my desktop. The laptop has been okay, so far. I ran the desktop with FF "safe mode", and it behaved itself. Now, to figure out which extension is being a pain. I'll have to see which ones are on the desktop and not the laptop. That should narrow it down some.

34. Do you have the latest version?

It's up to 10.0.2 for both Mac and Windows. I have had no problems since the latest upgrade.

6. Not very weird, but suddenly posting links to Facebook is problematical

Say you're posting something from Blogger or YouTube. The little Facebook window that pops up for you to write your comment in stays up after you send your link, only now it's blank. In other words, it's as if you hit the Post link on Facebook button twice. But I know I haven't. Annoying, but not a deal-breaker.

9. There's a thread on the subject in Computer Help and Support...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/1095961

Join in and describe said "weirdness". I haven't made the jump yet because of said "weirdness". That's really where the question belongs anyway and you're much more likely to get answers there than in The Lounge (where we prefer fart jokes).

11. Thanks.

I wasn't looking for any answers other than whether or not others are having issues. I posted here because far more people visit the Lounge than do the Computer Help and Support group. I've posted there in the past, and have gotten little help.

15. Doesn't fill in some images as it used to

unless I block the Ad-Block now, whereas before those images would appear just fine.
I am talking about normal site images, not ad images.
Including some on DU.

18. My Ad-Block has been okay so far.

It appears to be some other extension issue. What a pain, eh? It's great that they upgrade and work out bugs, but sometimes, it seems like they just create more bugs in the process.

20. I just noticed a problem with the address bar.

When I type a URL in the address bar and hit "return", nothing happens. I have to click the arrow in the address bar in order to navigate to the URL I typed. This just started recently. Weird.

That cleared up when I went under "Tools" and clicked on "Clear recent history". In fact, all the bugs seem to be gone now. This is the first time Firefox has ever acted so weird with an upgrade for me.

24. Sorry for kicking an ancient thread, but

the problem I described came back shortly after I cleared my cache. I silently tolerated the problem for a few weeks, but today I got fed up and googled around to try to find a solution. I found that some people experienced this with AVG safe search, so I disabled my AVG add-ons and restarted and viola, no more problems!

Oh, wait... you mean that browser that copied Opera and made people think they were the first browser to "revolutionize" Internet browsing? Sorry, I wouldn't know how well it's "working"

30. I guess that's why it's consistently the most popular internet browser

After Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome and Safari.

Opera. Best by virtue of being almost invisible.

31. When it comes to security and speed tests,

they often outdo Firefox. Not by much, but enough to be noticeable. I would guess that they either don't market very well, or people that use their browser on their phone, don't know that's what's being used, and therefore don't go looking for it.

What's interesting, is that most IT people I've known in person seem to prefer Opera, and use Firefox only as a backup

37. I guess that you and those IT people account for the 2.7% figure

I actually don't feel very strongly about this issue at all, except insofar as I really dislike Internet Explorer. Firefox has worked very well for me, and until that changes I see no reason to shop around.

No disrespect (but maybe a little needling) of those who use other browsers.

38. I think that most informed people know that IE is to be avoided at all costs.

I've never heard someone that knows what they're talking about recommend it

When I tried Firefox many years ago, I couldn't figure it out as the commands I was used to didn't work on it. So I went back to what was familiar

40. Nah. I gave up on Firefox a few versions ago when...

it became bloated beyond hope. I had some neat extensions that I miss for research, but there was little it did that other browsers didn't and not worth the hassle. And most of the common extensions people get are already built into other browsers and give you grief with the (apparently) weekly upgrades.

The truth the peanut gallery doesn't want you to hear is that IE 8 and 9 are actually pretty good browsers and not significantly less secure than anything else. I think it was the dreadful IE 6 that got everyone looking elsewhere, but that shouldn't count any more. I don't use them much because I'm kinda stuck on Opera, but when I do use them they work very well.

I still use Opera as my favorite mainly because I've been using it since I gave up Netscape (a long time ago) and it does pretty much everything I need in a browser, so I see no need to change. I wish more people would use it, though, to help keep it around.

I keep Chrome around because it handles some iffy code that Opera hates and the basic interface is the cleanest of them all, but I never trusted Google enough to want to do real work with it. Tried Safari for a bit, but there was nothing special there.
