I'm really, really, really sick of the taste of Robitussin!
This thing just keeps hanging on ...

1. Yup, nasty stuff.
|
I can't stand any of the foul tasting liquid meds. I always just swallow the horse-sized "liquicaps". Hard to get down, especially with a sore throat, but better than tasting the "blech".

16. That's what I thought.

Now it's back. I have so much sinus drainage I don't know where it all could possibly be coming from. Doesn't a head need to have space for a brain, teeth, a tongue and a few bones?
The only thing I could manage to do all day was feed the birds and I didn't really feel like doing that. |

4. Use the pills. They're cheaper anyway. Liquid medicine is MEANT to taste like warmed over dog shit
|
That's mostly to keep young kids from drinking it. It never tastes good. Bleah.

12. Yeah, those gel cap things are great - all the drugs with none of the nasty taste
|
Every liquid medicine makes me physically shudder and I nearly toss the stuff every time. The gel caps have saved me untold misery.

5. Hot tea with honey and lemon, Zinc with Vit C tabs, Nyquil and Dayquil when needed.
|
SO also uses Ricola cough drops. Plus, blow your nose in the shower, or just after, when the snot is soft and more fluid, clear that mucus out. Wash your pillow case or all the sheets if you have the energy. This stuff is miserable. I am in the NW and it seems to be fairly prevalent in my area.

7. The whole denbot household has it

Wife was out with it last week, and still trying to get better. Kids are getting over it as well. I'm still in the middle of a pretty bad chest cold. It is definitely making the rounds here in L.A.

10. remember that a productive cough is okay

and gets the gunk out. A steaming teakettle will hydrate the house, so will a hot shower.
Above all, don't let things go too long if you are not improving. Remember Jim Henson. |

Whenever I get sick, I go out and have a few. It kills everything.
Be sure to include the lime for extra vitamin C. |

15. Most or all of the ingredients in Robitussin have no proven benefit
|
The expectorant in Robitussin is a bark extract and was at one time a treatment for syphilis. The scientific evidence for it's efficacy as an expectorant is dubious. The cough suppressant in Robitussin was found to be no better than a placebo in a study done on children.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2004/07/08/MNGNF7I1G31.DTL Personally I just mix a shot of whisky with a tablespoon of honey and repeat as necessary. It may or may not work, but it tastes better and at least the side effects are pleasant. |
