Question about Lenscrafters

I have my presciption and want to keep my present frames.
My prescription is for simple bi-focals plus i'll add maybe 2-3 things like anti-glare.

Anybody have an idea what I'll pay for 1 hour service. Even a ballpark figure would be nice.
Thank you.

You can get cheap cheap cheap prescription glasses on the internet.

Get a copy of your prescription plus your PD (pupillary distance). Your doc has to give you a copy of your scrip if you ask, plus the PD.

I have gotten bifocals from both these places and been very satisfied.
I am nearsighted and over 40.

I have sent my old prescription shades to goggles4u.com and gotten new lenses put in them.

2. they probably won't be able to use your frames, unless they carry the same ones

I got glasses in one hour from them once about 15 or 20 years ago - they ran about $200 then - lenses and frames.

3. Most likely it's going to be between $200-$400

The price is going to depend greatly on how thin you want the lenses. Higher index lenses will cause the price to rise greatly. Lenscrafters also charges a lot for every option or coating you select. Lenscrafters makes most of their money on lenses, so you probably aren't going to save that much using your own frames.

If you have the time, you'll be much better off ordering your glasses online. I have used Zenni Optical in the past, but there are several good ones out there. You can get a set of progressive bifocals, 1.67 index (very thin) with all the coatings for about $100. If you just want regular bifocals that are thicker, the price will be cheaper. That same pair of glasses will probably cost you around $400 minimum at Lenscrafters.

The main thing you will need besides your prescription is your PD (pupillary distance). If you don't have this, you can get someone with a steady hand and a ruler that measures in mm to measure it for you. The web sites that take online orders have directions on how to measure PD.

I went back to my optomitrist and with my insurance it will be 170. I had to pass because things are very tight here. I will have him give me my perscription and see what I'll pay on line.

5. They regularly advertise $79 for a complete pair (not counting examination)

but they will accept any valid prescription. I doubt that is for 1 hour service, but it's worth calling them. Check the Sunday paper inserts.
