(5,029 posts)I don't think I've ever even heard them but why they didn't make the list is beyond me.
Joy Division could make it but I doubt most people are aware of the origin of the term.

I see the Revolting Cocks are okay to mention, too

(5,029 posts)Joy Division - In order to avoid confusion with the London punk band Warsaw Pakt, the band renamed themselves from Warsaw to Joy Division in late 1977, borrowing their new name from the prostitution wing of a Nazi concentration camp mentioned in the 1955 novel The House of Dolls.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_House_of_Dolls
House of Dolls is a 1955 novella by Ka-tzetnik 135633. The novella describes "Joy Divisions", which were allegedly groups of Jewish women in the concentration camps during World War II who were kept for the sexual pleasure of Nazi soldiers.

(29,414 posts)from that.
Now, it's interesting that Pansy Division has a semi-Nazi root, too:
Frustrated by the lack of openly gay musicians in independent rock, Jon Ginoli formed Pansy Division (the name itself a pun on Panzer division and the word "pansy" in San Francisco in early 1991.
Those crazy punks!

(5,029 posts)Part of the punk mindset.
Sex Pistols, the Damned, the Stranglers, Joy Division, etc.
I'm a huge fan of punk music. I don't think most people realize how much influence a handful of bands had on popular music in a short period of time.
Good times, good times. I have to keep saying that because I'm getting old enough that I have a hard time remembering if I put on my pants before I left for work, much less what I was listening to 35 years ago.

Trivia item. 10,000 Maniacs was originally named Big Ass Truck but changed their name to a more marketable name. Maybe Shit Scum should consider a name like, oh I don't know, Skid Marks.

(5,029 posts)Black Sabbath
Body Count
Bonerama (really not as bad as it reads- they're an awesome brass band from NOLA with four, count them, four trombones)
The Coathangers
The Damned
Judas Priest
Meat Puppets
Nazareth
My Bloody Valentine
The Nuns
Roach Gigz
Sex Pistols
Steely Dan
The Stranglers
The Swingin' Richards
Wet Willie
Whitesnake
Truly the only thing on my Ipod that's questionable is Pat Boone, but that's just my opinion.
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)He covers Judas Priest and others on it. It's pretty lulzy.
I've got most all of those too but I am interested in that Bonerama. You can't go wrong with 4 trombones! Awesome Brass from NOLA sounds like a fine band to me.
I had a friend that was asked to leave Auburn in 82ish - might have been 83 or 84... lol I think they disagreed with his personal marijuana policy - which was to have it it on him and in use at all times.

(5,029 posts)You can download free concerts. They're all approved by the bands so it's not bootleg performances.
The link is here:
http://archive.org/browse.php?collection=etree&field=%2Fmetadata%2Fcreator
Bonerama has 133 shows on archive.org
Check out their version of The Ocean by Led Zeppelin. I never thought a brass band version would work but it's really cool.

(5,029 posts)The quality varies widely. I tend to look for soundboard recordings and for the recordings that get the higher ratings, but you can always delete what you don't like.
Also check out the Bad Livers. A bluegrass band with a tuba, FFS, that covers punk songs? That's right up my alley.
A few other recommendations from Live Music Archive:
True Believers- their covers of the Velvet Underground songs Foggy Bottom and Train Came Round the Bend are incredible.
Alexandro Escovedo- Member of The Nuns, Rank and File, and the True Believers. Great roots rock artist whose Velvet covers and Mott covers are awesome.
SubDudes- A New Orleans rock band that's been compared to The Band and Little Feat.
Lots of older punk- Fugazi, Mekons, The Minutemen, etc.
A couple fun bands are Moxy Fruvous and Man or Astroman.
There are literally thousands of concerts available on LMA.

(12,132 posts)I found with The Ocean and I saw one with War Pigs so I got that too. Love them. That was at work, so now I'm gonna get them here at home too and can peruse more in depth without worrying about bosses snooping...
This is gonna be one of my new favorite websites lol. I love live music (I have shittons of Zep boots and listen to them more than studio) and I love all that old punk stuff.
Thanks again for turning me onto this!

(29,414 posts)Locally, our Pacifica station, KPFT, has had both a punk show and, separately, a death-metal show. You'd likely hear pretty much all of those bands on that type of show. I can't say I've heard even a majority of these bands, but a good quarter are semi-familiar (I've seen the names associated with punk, death-metal, and noise bands, but not necessarily heard them.)
auburngrad82
(5,029 posts)There are a couple I like but we're usually in my wife's car and then I have to deal with her changing the station every 30 seconds.

(12,132 posts)I know a lot of bands they shouldn;t mention
Fuck...I'M Dead
Dead Congregation
Cock and Ball Torture
Christ Denied
Cattle Decapitation
Circle of Dead Children
Defecation
Filthy Christians
Foetopsy
Fuck You All
Godflesh
Goatsemen
Gorebortion
Gorefest
Gorerotted
Gorguts <--(Best of the GORE's)
Hate Eternal
Hatebeak
Hellbastard
I'd say "Kronos" but I bet those uneducated twits don't even know who he is - but if they did Kronos would be on the list lol (Same with Ackercocke and Anaal Nathrakh and Immortal)
Luceferion
Lawnmower Deth but only because they have a hilarious song called Satan's Trampoline
Ludichrist
Malevolent Creation
Marduk
Morbid Saint
Necrophagist
Necrophobia
Necroabortion
Possessed
I don't know why they have Morbid Angel and Deicide on the list but not Atheist - all three bands started in Tampa around the same time. Originators of the Florida Death Metal sound along with Death and Obituary.
Not sure how they 'd feel about Atheist drummer Steve Flynn's side project Gnostic but they are a great band.
And that doesn't even begin to touch on the thousands of bands with less obviously sacrilegious names but still have pretty anti-theist lyrics.

(4,261 posts)How did they put this list together, how they could bring themselves to write down such blasphemous or profane words
and more importantly how did they not think putting down a list of profane and blasphemous band names would lead to many
actively seeking out said bands?
Hmmm, I remember seeing a band called Lubricated Goat who performed naked and greased on television, I think they would be banned if the writer knew of them
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)and if you think about what that names sounds like they do in their stage show, they do. I'm 92% sure the "random" people pulled on stage for the act are willing and pre-approved.
Side note - Vocalist Gen is married to David Vincent who is the bassist and vocalist for Morbid Angel. (for most of their albums anyway.)
