**Update**

Well, I went to see my orthopedic surgeon today...

The wound looks good. My blood values are good at 11/32 (Hg/Hct.). I'm still weak and tired but patience grasshopper...

The sling/shoulder immobilizer stays on for 2 more weeks except for PT which will start in earnest tomorrow.

I am sticking my right hand out of the sling for some things, like typing!

Just thought all you good people might want to know...

18. I second the pain medication before therapy suggestion

Often therapists will recommend that patients come drugged.

Glad to hear you are progressing as hoped Peggy

22. Good to hear you are healing!

The tiredness may be the anesthesia. That's what one friend told me when I complained about being tireder than I expected after the carpal tunnel surgery and the colonoscopy less than two weeks later.

Good luck with the PT. It's worth it but can be a pain.

24. Thank you, my dear csziggy...

I thought that maybe my Hg/Hct were the problem with the fatigue, but now I think you may be onto something...I haven't felt completely myself since last year, when I had my knee replacement.

I think the anesthesia is the reason for my fatigue. 3 surgeries in a 12 month period......that's a lot. My gall bladder was the other one.

I know the PT will be a pain, but I do want my strength and flexibility back.

29. Same here - I had low protein and thought that might be it

But I was pretty energetic after the first knee replacement last May, less so after the second in July and had problems concentrating. The carpal tunnel surgery in December pretty much wore me out. Then I had the colonoscopy less than two weeks later and it's taken me since then to begin to feel close to competent.

I'd thought about getting the second carpal tunnel surgery in a few months, but I think it will wait until next year. My husband is probably going to need surgery on his foot and possibly on the knee on the other side. He's taken such good care of me, I need to make him take care of himself so he can stop hurting!

Of course, it doesn't help to be a year older, either.

What exactly did they do in the shoulder? PT can do amazing things - my left shoulder is a tribute to a talented surgeon and a whole lot of PT!

Pt will start slowly and ....well, I'll know more tomorrow!

40. Wow! That is radical and pretty cool

While I was in the rehab hospital the second time there was a gentleman there that had one of the first shoulder replacements. The therapists were all fascinated because they had not seen one that early. They obviously discussed it among themselves because different therapists would come by and talk to him about the artificial joint and want to see how it worked.

If I remember correctly with shoulder replacements now the ball is implanted into the shoulder, opposite of what the natural joint is. This man's replacement was more like the original with the ball on the upper arm bone. His shoulder worked great - the reason he was in rehab was that he'd been in a car accident and shattered one leg and the other arm!

We had some nice talks. He is a progressive Democrat and had been a city commissioner years ago. He was surprised that I remembered his name since he's been out of the public eye for a couple of decades.

It's exciting to see what they can do now with the body parts replacements and it gives me hope. When my left shoulder was damaged and rebuilt, the surgeon told me that if I ever injured it again, he could not fix it since there was nothing left but scar tissue. That was twenty years ago - now I think it would be possible to do the replacement and have a good amount of use.

So I will be following your recovery closely! Take care and rest a lot - that seems to be what helps with getting your energy level back. For a few weeks I was sleeping 10-12 hours a day. I normally sleep 6-7 hours!
