Hill Street Blues or NYPD Blue meets Glee. I think David Caruso was in it, but not sure ... I know he went on to the first season of NYPD Blue. And it was on ABC. And I think either David E Kelley or Steven Cannell was the producer?

All the music by Randy Newman. 11 episodes before being cancelled. I used to do musical theatre, so naturally, I loved it. I think it would get a better response these days.
