I'm about to buy myself a Kindle Fire HD. I've been saving for one for awhile and I just had a quick question.
They say it comes with a USB charging cable? I have a USB plug adapter that came with my cell phone, would I be able to use that charger for it?

We recommend against using other USB 2.0 (micro-B connector) charging cables as they may or may not work and run the risk of damaging your device.

(47,675 posts)The USB standard is pretty solid with respect to voltage levels, especially from a computer port. Besides, doesn't it come with a cable?

(6,336 posts)I have a USB wall adapter from my cell phone (and a car one too) where the cord that comes with the device plugs into the USB. Would that work?
Trying to save myself $20 here.

(47,675 posts)... I'm just glad that the cell phone industry standardized the chargers. It was a royal pain in the ass to have 30 different flavors of connectors.

(9,874 posts)That's what I have for my Kindle Fire. BTW, using the wall adapter seems to charge it must faster than plugging it into the computer. Supposedly the cable they supply you with is a higher voltage than a standard phone cable, which I have used in a pinch, but takes forever to charge the Kindle.
