12. She reminds me of Kokomo. My dad won her and build a huge flight for her in the basement.

She looked very much like that (different facial markings) and he even hosted a mate for her, but she wasn't interested. He ended up giving her to a woman who specialized in raising macaws. They can be REALLY nasty, but she always loved him and groomed his beard. They're not birds to fuck with, trust me.

I have been owned by this parrot since 2001. She shares my meals, sleeps in my room and travels with me when it is safe for her.

Frankly, I consider most species to be close to human, but parrots are the only birds that share our ethics and companionship (well, other than bluejays - do NOT fuck with a bluejay offspring). We're the dominate species, which means WE'RE the ones who get to fuck up the planet.

Pretty much every other mammal has a better survival rate than we do. They are more adaptable to conditions we (humans) inflict on them. Birds seem to survive anything. At least they can fly. I always wanted to, but it never worked out.

When you take in a pet (of any sort), it is a member of the family. To quote Forrest Gump, "And that's all I have to say about that."
